Associate Director of Services provides leadership to a team of direct care professionals, who is laser-focused on providing the best care possible to the individuals we serve. You will lead a team to fulfill our mission of empowering people to reach individual achievement across the spectrum of life. As a core member of the regional leadership team, you’ll be responsible for keeping updated records, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations from governing bodies, and implementing services that emphasized individual choice and decision making. Your consistent leadership will provide your team with the trusted foundation they need to make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.
This role operates administratively in the following departments:
- Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Setting, defined as “medical, social, and supportive services for Iowans with functional, cognitive, and other physical or mental health needs” (Iowa Health & Human Services). Rather than institutionalizing individuals who have these physical and mental health needs, HCBS settings provide these individuals with the opportunity to live and receive services in a way honoring them and their abilities.
- Day Habilitation (DAY HAB) Setting, defined as services “that provide opportunities and support for community inclusion and build interest in and develop skills for active participation in recreation, volunteerism and integrated community employment” (Iowa Health & Human Services). Day Habilitation provides assistance with acquisition, retention, or improvement of socialization, community participation, and daily living skills.
- Supported Employment Day Habilitation (SE-HAB) Setting, defined as services “that enables the member to obtain and maintain individual employment” (Iowa Health & Human Services). Rather than assuming individuals with development or intellectual disabilities are not qualified to work, SE-HAB services provide these individuals with the opportunity to obtain and maintain meaningful employment that supports their life goals.

- Create and maintain the team culture, which may include:
- General Responsibilities:
- Serve as primary contact in the referral/admission process to include participating in Imagines' admissions committee & developing a waiting list for future openings.
- Provide reports as requested.
- Be an active member of the management team.
- Coordinate and oversee staffing:
- Ensure staffing patterns are inline with revenues received for services, monitor overtime & implement measures to reduce overtime.
- Ensure effective orientation and hands-on training is provided to new and current staff.
- Conduct regular meetings with staff ensuring consistent communication.
- Ensure relevant timely documentation.
- Perform evaluations for direct reports within one month of their due date.
- Provide orientation and ongoing training to staff.
- Comply will all applicable policies, practices, and laws, and with the regulations provided by any governing bodies, such as Department of Human Services, Iowa Medicaid Enterprise, Department of Inspections and Appeals, and HCBS rules, where applicable.
- Rotating on-call as required and filling in for staff as needed.
- In this role, you must be available on short notice to fill gaps in the schedule due to absences, personnel changes, or other unexpected reasons.
- Compensation for on-call duties will be paid in stipends based on rotation, per department guidelines.
- Mileage reimbursement is available when on-call duties require report to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.
- Additional HCBS Responsibilities:
- Review service documentation on an ongoing basis to ensure documentation requirements are satisfied.
- Ensure billable units are submitted in a timely manner and ensure that appropriate service documentation exists to support units billed. Ensure units provided to no exceed units approved.
- Overseeing Individuals Served, which may include:
- Communicate with individuals served, families, guardians, and case managers regarding service provision, limitations of rights, or other concerns.
- Maintain all property and equipment and report deficiencies in a timely manner. This may include: ordering supplies and equipment as needed. Develop procedures to ensure proper use of equipment and that program supplies are provided.
- Ensure opportunities and choices are available for the individuals served.
- Ensure Individual program plans are in place for persons served that are driven by the person served.
- Ensure that rights restrictions for persons served are applied only as necessary and outlined in inviduals personal outcome plan.
- Monitor needs of individuals served and ensure appropriate follow through.
- Review incident/accident reports and document appropriate follow up.
- Demonstrate knowledge, or be willing to learn, and comply with all policies, practices, laws, and rules provided by any governing bodies in the industry.
- Provide complete, consistent, and accurate documentation of incident reports, investigations, and service documentation.
- Be an advocate for individuals receiving services to have as much control over their own lives as possible. All individuals should be treated with respect and should feel empowered to live their life as independently as physically possible.
