Summary:
The role will be to lead the design, implementation and management of Alkahest’s software engineering and data infrastructure in support of large scale multiomics/biomarker studies and other biological studies in a clinical and pre-clinical capacity.
Activities will involve strategic planning as well as hands-on development and implementation of purpose built and federated data storage and retrieval solutions. Management of a software engineering team to support custom applications as well as off-the-shelf solutions. Analysis of domain specific requirements ensuring solutions are appropriate for function as well as adhering to engineering and data management best practices.
The role requires dedication, flexibility, and excellent communication to successfully drive the science and achieve Alkahest’s corporate mission.
Serve as the primary architect and owner of Alkahest’s data infrastructure.
Develop and implement a robust storage infrastructure that can be leveraged on premises as well as in a cloud compute environment.
Identify, implement and maintain off-the-shelf applications that serve as the primary data interface for lab operations and analytical systems.
Support the development and deployment of custom in-house database solutions.
Support the ingress of publicly available databases for integration with in-house data.
Design and implement systems to analyze data use activity.
Coordinate with IT to ensure robust and appropriate backup procedures exist for all data.
Participate in the development of corporate policies that govern data related activites in the pre-clinical and clinical space.
Develop and maintain robust documentation of systems and architecture.
Manage a small team of software and data engineers.
Other responsibilities as assigned.

Education:
B.S. in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
Qualifications & Experience:
Significant experience (8+ years) working in information systems related roles.
Experience in Master Data Management, Data Warehouses, Data Governance, Data Analytics, and/or Database Modeling
Experience in relational and non-relational data models
Significant experience working in Linux based environments, preferably Ubuntu and RedHat.
Strong shell scripting experience.
Strong programming/scripting experience in languages such as Python, R or Scala.
Experience working in cloud environments such as AWS or GCP.
Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Spotfire, and R).
Expertise in SQL.
Expertise in PostgreSQL, Oracle or SQL Server a plus.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong team spirit but also the ability to self-motivate and work independently.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Creative problem solving with the ability to think outside-of-the-box.

The estimated pay scale for the Associate Director of Software and Data Engineering role based in San Carlos, California is $185,000.00-$275,000.00 per year. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in the company bonus pool. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on education, experience, skillset, knowledge, where the role is performed, internal equity and market data.
