Job Description: Associate Director, Research and Health Systems (New Position)

Job Summary:

Associate Director, Research and Health Systems

will direct the administration of the research grant program including managing all planning associated with application solicitation, award, execution, and closeout of grants. This position ensures that both the research grant application and funding processes maintain the highest level of integrity and transparency. The position will also develop ways to use the research platform to advocate the mission of the foundation through building strategic relationships with health systems and encouraging community engagement. This position will also oversee the Foundation’s advocacy initiatives. The position will support the efforts of the Medical Advisory Council (MAC), Advocacy Committee, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Task Force, and related community stakeholders. The position is a member of the Sr. leadership team and reports to the President and CEO.

Core Responsibilities:
Research
·

Oversee all administrative and Operational

aspects of the Research Grant Program (Independent, Named Funds, AHA, AAP and CNU), including:
1.

Communicate with business partners and scientists regarding the application submission and review process, reporting, budgets and other aspects of grant award administration.
2.

Manage receipt and distribution of all grant applications.
3.

Manage relationship with the external vendor to process all research submissions for accuracy, timeliness, and effective execution to completion
4.

Review grant payments and consult with the Finance Department to ensure timely payments.
5.

Work with research award recipients to ensure compliance award conditions.
6.

Communicate with investigators to ensure interim scientific reports are sent to research staff.
·

Support the Medical Advisory Council (MAC) research grant award process including peer review meetings
·

Collaborate on the development of performance and impact measures of the research program, and monitoring and reporting outcomes.
·

Ensure the Research pages are updated on the website, including researcher project pages, for accuracy and alignment with the research grants database.
Health Systems, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Taskforce & Community Engagement through Walk
·

Build strategic partnerships with the children’s hospitals and with the health systems focusing on physician, patient and family engagement and sponsorship in partnership with Development
·

Oversee and implement National relationships with AHA, CNU, AAP, NIH, CNOC, NHLBI, CHFRA coalition, and establish national partnership efforts, Assoc. of Blk Cardiologist, HBCUs, Blk Nurses Association, Nat’l Hispanic Medical Association, and others
·

Facilitate research awareness at Walks and through health systems
·

Attend Conferences serving as the official spokesperson on the science of congenital heart defects (CHD)
·

Participate in collaboration with other CHD organizations to solidify the Foundation's presence and spread brand awareness
·

Serve as the staff partner to the DEI Taskforce and award grants; ensure strategic plan elements of representation, access, and inclusion

Advocacy
·

Develop and coordinate Research/Advocacy Webinars to showcase the advancements in congenital heart defect treatments.
·

Build new relationships with potential advocacy speakers through the CHF regions to build awareness of congenital heart defects.
·

Represent the foundation at research roundtables and local/national advocacy events.
·

Lead efforts to implement the foundations strategic advocacy goals.
·

Steward advocacy

efforts on behalf of the foundation with corporate/government/community partners.
·

Coordinate/Provide Support to Foundation Workshops, Working Group Meetings and Symposia including communications with invited participants, travel arrangements, meeting materials and coordination of
meeting with venue representatives.
·

Provide staff support to the Advocacy Committee to achieve annual plans

Strategic Planning and Staff Management
·

Be an outcomes performance leader that achieves annual goals, collaborates with peers, involves leadership volunteers, keeps CEO informed, remains nimble, takes initiative, communicates effectively, and involves stakeholders and partners.
·

Build strategic plans, goals, and budgets to monitor and implement responsibilities in a timely manner, with changes as needed
·

Communicates effectively and with integrity, keeps supervisor informed in advance of organizational, staff, and volunteer decision-making in order to gain inputs
·

Supervise staff and provide annual performance reviews and coaching to achieve goals of the Foundation

Other Duties as Assigned

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
·

Minimum 5-years progressive experience as a grants administrator managing a portfolio of different funding mechanisms.
·

Bachelor’s Degree in management, Public Health, or related field. Graduate degree preferred in management, Public Health Communication or related field.
·

Experience in health-centered non-profit, health systems administration or research grant funding organizations preferred.
·

Working experience of advocacy/grassroots community partnership.
·

Minimum 5-years of experience managing budgets, contracts, supporting strategic planning, and projecting costs across multi-year grants and programs.
·

Experience in relationship management with senior level stakeholders (board/researchers/advisory committees).
·

Ability to organize meetings and workshops. Project management skills to achieve outcomes by deadlines.
·

Required commitment to travel/Must be able to travel when necessary, heavy at times.
·

Advanced level of competency in MS word, Power Point, Excel, Canva, and Adobe.
·

Highly organized thinker and planner with attention to detail.
·

Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
·

Comfortable speaking to groups of various sizes and backgrounds.
·

Recognizes role as ambassador of the cause: Trustworthy and high sense of integrity.

Salary Mid-Point: $75,000
