Job Description - Associate Project Designer (Design Build)

ABOUT US
Next Stage Design + Build is a dynamic team of remodeling professionals, dedicated to bringing a full-service experience to upscale homeowners in Silicon Valley. We’re looking for an associate project designer with a passion for construction to join our top-notch design team. We’re in search of Associate Project Designer (APD) assists Project Designers with design and administrative tasks related to residential remodeling projects ranging from kitchen and bathroom remodels to additions and whole-house remodels. This entry level position provides a track toward becoming a Project Designer. As APDs confidence and skillset grow, there will be the opportunity to lead the design of smaller-scope projects while still assisting Project Designers. Full-time hybrid position in North San Jose.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Provide administrative and design support to a team of Designers during the design and production phases.

  • Conduct general research related to building codes, design standards, products, materials, etc.

  • Assist with all aspects of the design phase including materials palettes, sourcing, documentation, bids, and data entry.

  • Assist with documenting, measuring, photographing, and drafting existing spaces.

  • Assist Project Designers with field verifications, materials/product research and documentation of final selections for contract.

  • Maintain client/project files and selections in both server & cloud-based project management systems.

  • Assist with client presentations, including leading presentation of various stages of the design phase.

  • Obtain and return samples to local and online vendors.

  • Request and review bids and quotes from vendors and trade partners.

  • Represent Design at onsite meetings during production phase in place of Project Designer as needed.

  • Draft as-built plans for Project Designers.

  • Assist in drafting conceptual and contract-ready plan sets in Chief Architect and implement redline revisions.

  • Lead cosmetic and pull & replace remodels, under supervision of Project Designer.



QUALIFICATIONS 



  • AA or BA degree in Interior Design from an accredited program or equivalent work experience

  • 1-3 years of professional experience in residential remodeling projects

  • Experience with Chief Architect and Vectorworks

  • Proficiency in producing drawings in all phases of work

  • Understanding of the fundamentals of space planning

  • Foundational knowledge of design principles and residential construction methods

  • Basic understanding of design materials and finishes

  • Demonstrates initiative and excellent communication & problem-solving skills



Preferred Skills



  • Beginner’s proficiency in a variety of CAD software.

  • Microsoft Office suite applications.

  • Excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in time and project management in a rapidly changing environment with competing priorities.

  • Beginner’s proficiency in the progression of design and production phases.

  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate across departments.

  • Growing confidence in presenting to clients and communicating and selling your design ideas.

  • Ability to effectively guide clients through design and materials decisions.

  • Meticulous attention to detail.

  • Developing organizational, time management and planning skills

  • Adept in fundamentals of interior design, including but not limited to space planning, material & finish properties, elements & principles of design and lighting design.

  • Demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness when assigned tasks where there is minimal information and oversight.

  • Collaborative team player with enthusiasm to learn and grow.

  • Excellent listening skills, with ability to infer design solutions based on client needs.

  • High level of professionalism in all interactions: internally, with trade partners and vendors, and most importantly with clients.


 
Physical Demands/ADA Requirements



  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time and perform computer related activities.

  • Ability to drive up to a 40-mile radius from the office to clients’ homes and company facilities.

  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone, email, text.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.



COMPENSATION

Competitive salary with benefits including paid vacation time, medical and dental coverage and an opportunity to grow within an Employee-Owned company. Expected range, commensurate with experience: $30-$34 per hour, plus benefits.
