Job Description - Associate Support Director

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates compassionate care and outreach to System associates at work, at home, in hospitals, or other locations during times of significant crisis or need.
  • Serves as the System’s representative during events of grief and loss, including attendance at funerals, visitations, memorials, or hospital visits when appropriate.
  • Provides emotional support, compassionate care, comfort interactions, and ongoing follow-up to associates and their families during times of crisis.
  • Facilitates debriefings and emotional support sessions following critical incidents affecting associates and their coworkers.
  • Facilitates associate and System participation in community outreach, volunteer programs, charity drives, and disaster relief initiatives.
  • Identifies and organizes service opportunities aligned with the System’s mission and values.
  • Assists with the associate emergency financial assistance program (“Hearts-to-Hands”), ensuring compassionate intake, eligibility review, documentation, and timely follow-up.
  • Coordinates with HR and Finance to ensure appropriate distribution of assistance while maintaining confidentiality and dignity.
  • Monitors trends, evaluates needs, and reports utilization outcomes to leadership.
  • Coordinates messaging, assistance awareness, and feedback channels to strengthen Hearts-to-Hands visibility and associate engagement.
  • Maintains a visible presence across System locations to build trust, accessibility, and cultural connectedness.
  • Coaches System leaders on empathy practices, communication during crisis, compassionate follow-up, and caregiving etiquette.
  • Develops communication processes and support request pathways for associates and leaders.
  • Maintains tracking mechanisms for support requests, compassionate care encounters, impact reporting, and program improvement.
  • Drafts communications, awareness campaigns, inspirational messaging, or newsletter content that encourages engagement.
  • Promotes the image and reputation of the System by exhibiting servant leadership and providing direct and open lines of communication
  • Contributes to the work of committees, workgroups, project management and other collaborative efforts of the System.
  • Performs other executive duties as necessary to ensure the success of the System.

  • Demonstrated servant leadership values
  • High emotional intelligence, discretion, and confidentiality
  • Ability to comfort and guide individuals experiencing crisis or grief
  • Strong interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to collaborate across diverse departments
  • Skilled in organizing community service and outreach events
  • Strong presence and professional demeanor across sensitive situations
  • Ability to coach leaders around compassion, empathy, and employee care

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in ministry, social services, human resources, nonprofit leadership, counseling, or related field (experience may be considered in lieu of degree)
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in chaplaincy, ministry, social services, employee relations, crisis response, caregiver support, or similar environment
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel across multiple service locations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five (5) or more years of related experience
  • Experience working in healthcare, post-acute services, or employee care ministry roles
  • Professional training in pastoral care, grief recovery, crisis intervention, or counseling
