Job Description
The fast-evolving market and customer demand in immunology requires bold and fast external communication approaches and innovative corporate affairs strategies. These dynamics require this role to be focused on accelerating the delivery of bold external communication approaches in immunology, supporting our growth in dermatology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, and allergy. With the potential for multiple products targeting the same disease area and expansion into new areas, this role will be critical to building out our presence so we can reach as many patients as possible.
The Associate Vice President/Vice President – Immunology Business Unit Corporate Affairs will play a pivotal role in accelerating our path to leadership in immunology. Through an innovation lens, this role will lead the identification, development, and execution of bold ideas that will ensure Lilly Immunology and our medicines stand out, coming in the form of external communications and corporate affairs strategy. This role will also be responsible for helping the organization understand trends in communications strategies, which includes how to apply and maximize PESO (Paid, Earned, Shared, Owned) media approaches. Where needed, this role will also lead internal communications and engagement for Lilly Immunology.
This position will report to the Chief Marketing Officer, Senior Vice President of Global Marketing, Strategy and Corporate Affairs for Lilly Immunology.
Responsibilities
The Associate Vice President/Vice President, Immunology Business Unit Corporate Affairs is accountable for:
Leading and coaching to the development and execution of a bold external communications strategy for Lilly Immunology, which includes partnership across BUs for shared interests
Partnering across the enterprise (i.e., Global, IBU, and TA BU Communications, Government Affairs, Legal, Medical, Commercial, etc.) to develop and support an innovative corporate affairs strategy to support Lilly Immunology objectives
Creating and executing a simple, but highly impactful internal engagement strategy for Lilly Immunology
Maintaining the Advocacy & Professional Relations community within Lilly Immunology, which includes supporting capability development of A&PR professionals within the business unit, in partnership with the Global Strategy & Marketing Disease Area Leaders
Key Objectives/Deliverables:

Objective 1 :

People Development
Foster environment that supports professional/career development and teamwork within the function and across Corporate Affairs.
Develop necessary skills to meet future demands of the function.
Ensure performance management, succession management, and other people processes are well-executed and integrated with Corporate Affairs
Objective 2: Lilly Immunology Communications and Corporate Affairs Strategy
Develop and secure approval of a bold, innovative global Lilly Immunology Communications and Corporate Affairs engagement strategy with defined strategic intent, objectives, tactics, and aspirational metrics. This includes communications support around key data and regulatory milestones for new pipeline assets as well as new indications and line extensions for best-in-class products.
Work in close collaboration with the Global Communications team on developing communications strategy, executing media relations, aligning messaging with corporate narrative, leveraging corporate channels, managing issues with reputational implications for Lilly, and ensuring compliance with all Lilly policies and operational governance.
Identify and maintain relationships with thought leaders (public and private) who shape health care policy directly related to the BU’s therapeutic area coordinating as appropriate with Government Affairs
Represent Lilly Immunology in external speaking engagements, including but not limited to, keynote speeches, panel discussions, fireside chats, media interviews, social media campaigns.
Track, monitor and report on strategy and tactical results.
Manage day-to-day work with PR agencies that support our work.
Objective 3: Learning and Adaptation
Identify and share best practices in Lilly Immunology CA / policy engagement.
Maximize Lilly’s investments in BU programming by facilitating replication of programs and tactics demonstrated to achieve results.
Adapt the strategic approach and tactics to proactively prepare for and respond to shifting environmental challenges and opportunities.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree
10+ years of experience in Corporate Affairs in 1- 2 functional areas (i.e., Government Affairs, Advocacy & Professional Relations, Communications, Policy)
Required Competencies/Skills:
Experience creating and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders.
Demonstration of bold, innovative thinking and fast execution
Strong oral and written communication skills
Flexibility: able to adjust quickly and effectively to frequent change and altered priorities; strong learning agility
Demonstrated experience in the development and execution of strategic and creative communications plans, including digital and social media
Experience successfully working with cross-functional teams, including collaboration and consensus building
Demonstrated influence with business partners
Project management experience
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, including interactions with senior leaders
Experience in media relations, including interacting with A-list media and serving as a spokesperson
PR agency management experience
Experience in executive communications/speechwriting
Ability to manage issues/crises; ability to handle stress
Creative communications skills – written and verbal, as well as interpersonal
Ability to understand the business need and use communication to drive the business forward
Additional Information
Travel: domestic and some international travel required (10%)
Location: Indianapolis (preferred)
