Job Description - Associate/Alternate Director of Nursing

Job Highlights


Associate/Alternate Director of Nursing (DON) functions under the direction of the DON, the Associate/Alternate DON manages home health registered nurses in the absence and/or in collaboration with the DON. The Associate/Alternate DONs central goal will be to develop a collaborative and efficient workplace with specific attention to quality patient care on collaboration with the home health agency DON and administrators. He/She will perform a range of duties including setting long-term clinical goals, overseeing record-keeping processes, overseeing staff aptitude. 



Qualifications 



  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school; BSN or higher, preferably MSN

  • Valid nursing license 

  • Proven experience as a registered nurse

  • 2+ years of progressive nursing staff management or home health experience

  • Valid BLS certification



Responsibilities



  • Oversight of marketing efforts along with DON to ensure effective use of resources and assess the need for additional staff, equipment and services

  • Coordinates clinical departments and branches; assumes responsibility for continuity, quality, and safety of services delivered in compliance with State and federal regulations (Conditions of Participation)

  • Understand current home health condition of participation and develop and implement clinical changes on agency delivery of care model

  • Able to perform OASIS assessments and regular home visits as needed

  • Provides direction to subordinates, in an effort to ensure quality, compliance with Plan of Care and assessment and reassessment of patients’ needs and continuity of services by appropriate health care personnel

  • Direct and evaluate efficiency and professional practice of nursing, intake and HHA staff

  • Promotes compliance with all fiscal intermediary and/or other third-party payors, through educations, coaching, and other assistance as necessary

  • Monitors systems and identifies problem areas to Administrator both verbally and through written reports

  • Meets mandatory continuing education requirements of the agency/licensing board

  • Promotes and educates regarding the concepts of infection control and universal precautions in coordinating/performing patient care activities to prevent contamination and transmission of disease and ensure adequate orientation and staff development needs are met through collaboration with the Education Department

  • Review and analyze department activities and provide data to aid in planning risk management and improve services

  • Work with HR to recruit/hire and orientate qualified personnel and resolve employee issues

  • Collaborates with case management team

  • Establish work schedules and assignments for staff, according to workload

  • Maintain awareness of advances in nursing, government regulations including the development, revision and implementation department policies and procedures as required

  • Monitor the use of diagnostic services and

  • Implement departmental objectives and evaluative or operational criteria

  • Prepare staff activity reports to inform management of issues

  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures (sanitation, decontamination etc.) and willingness to follow them at all times

        • Able to travel to prospective clients' residences within Miami-Dade County
