Omitron is seeking an Astrodynamics Engineer with coding and software integration experience to join our Colorado Springs team supporting the Joint Commercial Operations (JCO) program and integration efforts with the Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS) for the Department of Commerce (DoC). You will bring a solid foundation in orbital mechanics, orbit determination, and conjunction assessment, and apply that expertise to develop astrodynamics services in an AWS cloud environment while providing engineering support that enables TraCSS to execute the space traffic management mission. Omitron is the developer and sole maintainer of the Astrodynamics Support Workstation (ASW), a mission-critical software suite that serves as the algorithmic engine for high-accuracy spaceflight safety operations across the U.S. Government. ASW provides orbital analysis, conjunction assessment, and related astrodynamics services for Space Situational Awareness (SSA) customers spanning DoD, the Department of Commerce, and NASA. ASW is the algorithmic engine at the core of the TraCSS platform, providing the computational capability that enables space traffic management at the accuracy levels the mission demands. Prior ASW experience is preferred but not required; Omitron’s established team of ASW experts is committed to bringing strong engineering talent up to speed on our systems. This role operates at the intersection of rigorous astrodynamics analysis and modern cloud-based software development. You will contribute directly to Space Domain Awareness (SDA) mission outcomes by delivering high-accuracy catalog products and integration solutions for commercial and government customers. Responsibilities: Astrodynamics Services Development
Design, develop, and integrate astrodynamics applications and services supporting conjunction analysis, orbit determination, ephemeris propagation, and High Accuracy Catalog (HAC) recreation.
Deploy and sustain services in an Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud architecture, including development, test, and production environments.
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and scientists to integrate astrodynamics solutions into larger system architectures.
TraCSS Integration and Engineering Support
Provide engineering and software support across multiple agencies supporting TraCSS integration efforts, ensuring successful transition to full space traffic management operations.
Identify and resolve technical integration issues across interfaces between government and commercial SDA systems.
Support coordination across stakeholders to validate operational readiness of integrated solutions.
Software Development and Sustainment
Develop, test, and maintain software applications using GitLab version control and AWS services.
Write well-structured, documented code in Python, MATLAB, Java, or equivalent programming languages.
Support DevSecOps processes and contribute to continuous integration and delivery pipelines as applicable.
Technical Communication and Stakeholder Support
Create technical presentations, papers, and documentation capturing service capabilities, analytical methods, and results.
Provide technical troubleshooting and user support for system and data processing anomalies across government and commercial stakeholders.
Communicate status, risks, and technical findings clearly to program management and customer teams.
Minimum Requirements:
US Citizenship required
Security Clearance: None required at hire; candidates must be willing and eligible to be submitted for a US Government security clearance
Education: Bachelor's degree in Astrodynamics, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline
Experience:
5+ years of hands-on experience in astrodynamics, including orbital mechanics and conjunction assessment
Demonstrated proficiency with Python, MATLAB, Java, or equivalent programming languages
Experience with software development and integration using GitLab and AWS
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to produce technical documentation
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Master's degree in Astrodynamics, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field
Experience:
Prior experience with ASW or related astrodynamics mission software
Advanced proficiency with Python for scientific computing, data processing, and automation
In-depth knowledge of AWS services and cloud architecture patterns for mission applications
Experience working in defense, aerospace, or space operations software environments
Familiarity with space traffic management policy, commercial SDA data sources, and TraCSS or related DoC/DoD systems
Compensation and Benefits: The salary range for this role is $110,000 to $140,000, depending on relevant experience, location, and other factors. Benefits include:
Health, Dental and Vision Insurance
HSA or FSA accounts
Company paid ST/LT Disability and AD&D insurance
