Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Athletic Coordinator.
The Athletic Coordinator will bring a passion for Harlem Children’s Zone's mission: breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
We seek an Athletic Coordinator to guide our elementary, middle, and high school students through interscholastic athletic programs, activities, and events. The Athletic Coordinator will be responsible for innovating and improving the athletic programs and supporting policies and procedures that ultimately keep student-athletes engaged athletically and promote positive academic and personal growth.
An athletic coordinator plans, organizes, and manages athletic programs and facilities. They may also oversee athletic events, recruit coaches, and ensure compliance with rules. This position involves working closely with other staff members, community organizations, and external partners to promote and enhance our sports offerings. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone, an understanding and respect for the culture of all residents of Harlem, and experience working in a school-based setting that fosters a love for children.

- Bachelor's degree and at least 2+ years of coaching experience.
- It is highly preferred that candidates have experience in coaching 2+ types of sports
Who you are
- Ideal candidates will have 4+ years of experience managing athletic staff, as well as 3+ years of experience with managing athletic facilities, and an interest in growing in athletic management
- A keen knowledge of the rules, regulations, and strategies for volleyball, cheerleading, track and field, soccer and flag football
- A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ
- Experience working with the youth and adolescent populations
- Must be able to travel to away games or events
- Must have strong leadership and organizational skills with excellent writing and communication skills
- A positive, enthusiastic, collaborative, flexible, and solutions-oriented” mindset is necessary for this role
- Must be able to remain calm under pressure, and understand how to pivot when sudden changes or unexpected occurrences arise
- Reliable in a crisis; someone who can think clearly and take the right steps to mitigate said crisis, for example, like when an athlete is injured during a game or practice
- CPR and first aid certification
What you'll do
- The Athletic Coordinator, in conjunction with the Assistant Athletic Director and Director, will oversee day-to-day operations for all athletic teams.
- Support w/ logistics w/ special projects: Senior Night, In-house tournaments, exposure opportunities for all the sports offered.
- Manage the budget for all athletic teams under the scope of the position
- Work alongside the Assistant Athletic Director and Director to ensure the athletic facilities are safe to host athletic events
- Provide feedback and insight regarding the onboarding of staff to the department
- Collaborate with the Assistant Athletic Director and Director to incorporate Professional Development for the coaches in the Athletic Department.
- Communicate, schedule, and plan athletic events with HCZ colleagues and external organizations/leagues
- Support with the implementation of organizational policies and priorities
- Support the professional growth and development of the staff
- Prepare and maintain reports on contests, occurrences, and other activities
- Collaborate with the Assistant Athletic Director and the Director to ensure compliance with NCAA rules and regulations
- Research athletic exposure opportunities for elite scholar-athletes participating in sports under the scope of the position
- Support with building an athletic culture-based environment/department

Work Days: Monday-Saturday / Off Day: Sunday
- Monday - Thursday 10 AM - 8 PM
- Friday 11 AM - 7 PM
- Saturday 11 AM - 4:30 PM
- Please note: the Athletic Coordinator will usually have two days off every week; however, the 2nd off day will vary based on the needs of the Athletic Department and scheduled athletic events
Summer:
Work Days: Monday-Saturday / Off Day: Sunday

The annual salary range for this position is $68,000 - $75,000, with a comprehensive benefits package including employer-covered health insurance.
