Job Description - Athletic Trainer - College Outreach

Description

Position Overview

The Athletic Trainer is responsible for supporting coaches and student athletes with first aid, injury prevention, injury evaluation, rehabilitation, educational workshops and more. At the college level, Athletic Trainers are most often fully responsible for assigned teams communicating regularly with updates to the Head AT and the Athletic Director as needed. This is a professional job requiring advanced skills, decision making, supervision and independent judgement. There is travel associated with this position and college athletic trainers are required to adhere to policies and procedures of the institution where they are assigned, POSC and all NCAA, NATA, Conference as well as state and local laws.  

Essential Functions

  • Prevention of injuries, illnesses and conditions likely to be sustained/acquired by interscholastic athletes. 
  • Clinical evaluation and diagnosis of injury, illnesses and conditions likely to be sustained/acquired by interscholastic athletes. 
  • Immediate care of injuries, illnesses and conditions to be sustained/acquired by interscholastic athletes. 
  • Treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning of injuries, illnesses and conditions likely to be sustained/acquired by interscholastic athletes. 
  • Maintain injury records
  • Maintain treatment records
  • Maintain medical correspondence
  • Produce reports and/or data
  • Maintain inventory of athletic training room supplies and equipment.
  • Ordering of athletic training room supplies and equipment.
  • Professional development and responsibility.
  • Act as liaison between family physician’s medical specialists, the school district, athletes and their parents, and coaches.
  • Advise coaches and appropriate school personnel on:
  • Athletes’ injuries, treatments, prognosis and restrictions.
  • Athletes’ medical history and/or issues of concern.
  • Proper conditioning, strength and flexibility programs.
  • Proper fitting of protective equipment.

 

Other

  • Attend meetings and/or trainings determined necessary by Athletic Director and/or Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Collaborate with other athletic trainers, POSC physical therapists, physicians or physician assistants and be a positive representative of POSC.
  • Other responsibilities as directed by Athletic Director, Head Athletic Trainer or POSC Regional Director of Physical Therapy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge/Skills Abilities Required

  • Must be BOC certified athletic trainer
  • Must be Colorado Licensed Athletic Trainer (or in the application process to apply)
  • Must be a member in good standing in the National Athletic Trainers Association

  • While performing the duties of this job, you will be required to walk, stand, sit, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop and speak with clarity.
  • Hand dexterity to evaluate athlete and perform tests as needed.
  • Ability to process and synthesize information.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Willing to work outside in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to communicate via telephone and written word to give and receive information to and from coaches, athletes and parents.
  • Ability to move about a school setting.

Salary Description

$50k to $60k/annually, DOE
