Audio Utility

Overview

The Audio Utility (A2) supports production sound by preparing, deploying, and maintaining microphones and audio equipment across studio, location, livestream, and tentpole productions. Reporting to the Director of Audio and working closely with the Audio Technician and broader production team, this role helps ensure talent is properly mic'd, equipment is organized and ready for use, and production audio runs smoothly from setup through wrap.

Key Responsibilities

• Support Production Audio– Deploy microphones, wire talent, operate boom microphones when needed, and assist the A1 throughout production.


• Prepare & Maintain Equipment– Organize, test, clean, and maintain microphones, transmitters, and other audio equipment. Flag repairs, perform basic preventative maintenance, and assist with equipment pickups and rentals as needed.


• Manage Audio Setup– Deploy RF antenna systems, manage transmitter power, ensure cameras remain synchronized with timecode, and assist with specialty microphone fittings.


• Support Production Planning– Attend pre-production meetings to document talent microphone needs, coordinate wiring approaches with wardrobe, and identify additional equipment requirements for upcoming shoots.


• Assist with Load In & Strike– Help prepare, deploy, break down, and properly store audio equipment before and after productions to keep gear organized and ready for future use.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as an A2 on film, television, documentary, broadcast, streaming, or theatrical productions.


• Experience wiring talent using both visible and concealed lavalier microphone techniques.


• Knowledge of RF antenna deployment and timecode systems.


• Strong listening skills and attention to detail.


• Familiarity with RF coordination and wireless audio systems.


• Basic knowledge of Dante audio networking.
