Job Description - Audiology


  

Position Title: Audiologist (Full-Time)

Reports to: Director of Audiology

Location: Rochester Hearing & Speech Center

Schedule: Full-Time

Status: Exempt / Salaried

Pay Range: $68,000 to $70,000 annually (good-faith estimate in compliance with NYS Pay Transparency Law; final offer based on experience and credentials)

Job Summary

The Audiologist provides comprehensive diagnostic, rehabilitative, and hearing aid dispensing services to patients across the lifespan at Rochester Hearing & Speech Center (RHSC). This position is responsible for conducting audiological evaluations, interpreting test results, providing auditory rehabilitation services, dispensing and servicing hearing technology, and collaborating with healthcare, educational, and community partners to support optimal hearing and communication outcomes.

  

Primary Responsibilities

Clinical Services

• Conduct comprehensive hearing evaluations for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and older adults with a variety of hearing and communication disorders

• Administer and interpret audiological procedures including pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry, tympanometry, acoustic reflex testing, otoacoustic emissions (OAEs), visual reinforcement audiometry (VRA), conditioned play audiometry (CPA), speech-in-noise testing, central auditory processing evaluations, and cochlear implant evaluations

• Analyze diagnostic findings and develop appropriate recommendations for treatment, intervention, and follow-up care

• Initiate referrals to physicians, educational professionals, and other specialists as appropriate

• Maintain a productive clinical caseload while delivering high-quality patient-centered care

Auditory Rehabilitation & Hearing Technology

• Dispense, fit, program, verify, and service hearing aids and assistive listening devices

• Provide patient and family counseling regarding hearing loss, amplification options, communication strategies, and auditory rehabilitation

• Troubleshoot hearing technology and coordinate repairs, replacements, and follow-up services

• Monitor patient outcomes and adjust treatment plans as needed to support successful hearing aid use and communication goals

Documentation & Compliance

• Complete evaluations, treatment documentation, reports, billing records, and electronic medical record documentation accurately and within established agency and payer timelines

• Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, Medicaid, HIPAA, OMIG, and professional practice requirements

• Adhere to RHSC policies, procedures, quality assurance standards, and clinical protocols

• Participate in agency audits, quality improvement initiatives, and compliance activities as assigned

Collaboration & Outreach

• Collaborate with physicians, educators, speech-language pathologists, service coordinators, and other professionals to support coordinated patient care

• Participate in community outreach, hearing conservation programs, educational presentations, and special events

• Occasionally conduct services at off-site locations, schools, community settings, or partner agencies

Professional Development

• Maintain all required licenses, certifications, registrations, and continuing education requirements

• Participate in staff meetings, department meetings, trainings, and professional development activities

• Support student clinicians, residents, interns, and new staff orientation activities as assigned

• Perform other duties as assigned to support agency operations and patient care needs


Requirements

  

Qualifications & Skills

• Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) preferred; Master's degree in Audiology accepted if accompanied by current licensure and required certifications

• Current New York State license to practice Audiology required

• Current New York State Hearing Aid Dispensing License required if applicable for position

• Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) required

• Strong knowledge of diagnostic audiology, auditory rehabilitation, hearing aid technology, and patient counseling

• Experience with electronic medical records and audiology practice management systems preferred

• Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work collaboratively with patients, families, staff, and community partners

  

Work Environment

• Clinical-based role with regular patient interaction

• Requires occasional travel to schools, community events, outreach programs, and partner locations

• Collaborative work environment involving interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families

  

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in clinical settings requiring use of audiological testing and hearing aid equipment

• Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, and use of a computer

• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff

• Ability to move throughout clinical and community environments

• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
