Job Description - Autism Diagnostic Specialist

Description

SUMMARY 

Provide testing to determine if youth/young adults meet eligibility criteria to receive autism benefit services through Integrated Services of Kalamazoo using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule and Autism Diagnostic Interview Revised. This position will schedule with families during traditional and nontraditional business hours to complete required assessments. Reports will be completed and submitted to ISK for review.  Services are provided in the office through flexible scheduling.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities associated with this job will change from time to time in accordance with the agency's program and business needs. More specifically, the incumbent may be required to perform additional and/or different responsibilities from those described below:

  • Successfully complete or be training in how to administer Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) and Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADIR) testing. 
  • Non-traditional hours may be required, Ability to regularly provide out-of-office services in unstructured, unpredictable situations. 
  • Administer ADOS and ADIR testing to youth as referred.  
  • Coordinate with families for scheduling and rescheduling as necessary.
  • Complete all required documentation according to standards. 
  • Provide support and de-escalation as needed during testing sessions.
  • Provide back up to case management team as available and needed.
  • Assist families with the identification of, as well as building and sustaining positive natural supports in their lives.
  • Provide services during after-school and evening hours as well as possible weekend appointments when requested. 
  • Provide accurate monitoring and documentation of all case related activities to fulfill program obligations and requirements. 
  • Complete all required trainings according to agency requirements.
  • Pursue broadened professional development to enhance level of competency and meet training requirements of funder.

Requirements

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum MSW/MA in a mental health-related field from an accredited school
  • Individual with specialized training and one year of experience in the examination, evaluation and treatment of minors and their families
  • Must be trained in ADOS/ADIR or ability to be trained as a reliable rater. 
  • Must be trained in Michi CANS or ability to be trained as a reliable rater of Michi CANS
  • Lived experience with behavioral health issues is desired
  • Education, training, and/or knowledge of the impact of trauma on individuals, children, and families, is desired.
  • Trained or willingness to be trained in First Aid, CPR, and AED 

  

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Required: Valid Licensure as LLMSW or LMSW. Full licensure preferred.

  • Valid Michigan driver's license and driving record which complies with agency policy. 
  • Ability to implement physical assistance/intervention as warranted. Trained or ability to be trained in Mandt. 
  • Ability to regularly provide out-of-office services in unstructured, unpredictable situations. Trained or ability to be trained in First Aid and CPR.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to travel to all areas within the service area. Must be able to transport clients in own vehicle; this includes adult clients and their children. Ability to drive own vehicle and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license and vehicle insurance that meets agency requirements is required for this role. Ability to drive during the day or evening, and in varied weather conditions, is required for this role. Home visits are often made during evening hours as required to meet family need. A small percentage of home visits may need to be made on weekends or holidays.
