Position Summary

The Prep Technician is responsible for the initial exterior cleaning and decontamination of vehicles before interior detailing and final finishing. This includes washing, clay barring, engine bay cleaning, and acid washing to remove road grime, tar, rail dust, and other exterior contaminants. This role is crucial to the overall detailing process and sets the standard for vehicle presentation. The ideal candidate is thorough, efficient, and follows safety procedures and quality standards consistently.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle Preparation

• Perform exterior vehicle washes including pre-rinse, soap application, hand washing, and drying
• Use clay bar treatments to remove bonded surface contaminants from paint, glass, and trim
• Apply acid wash products safely to wheels, tires, and vehicle surfaces to remove stubborn buildup
• Degrease and clean engine bays using appropriate chemicals and safety measures
  Prepare vehicles for interior detailing or further reconditioning stages
  Inspect vehicles to ensure all exterior prep tasks are completed to standard

Equipment and Chemical Handling

• Use pressure washers, foaming sprayers, brushes, and clay bars according to training and manufacturer guidelines
  Mix and apply cleaning chemicals properly, adhering to all safety protocols
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep bays and work areas
• Restock towels, tools, and prep supplies as needed
• Report equipment malfunctions or supply shortages to supervisors

Team Support and Communication

• Coordinate with detailers and site supervisors on vehicle readiness and workflow
• Follow daily work assignments and adapt to changing priorities
• Maintain a professional appearance and respectful attitude with team members and customers
