Automation & Assembly Process Engineer

Job Description - Automation & Assembly Process Engineer

Overview

Mural Group is partnering with a global Tier 1 automotive supplier and member of one of the world’s largest industrial groups to place an Automation & Assembly Process Engineer at their Morganfield, Kentucky facility. This is a direct hire role for someone who wants to own automation from commissioning through serial production - not maintain what someone else built. The company manufactures vibration control components for major automotive OEMs and is investing in the technology and automation infrastructure that will define their next decade of production.

What You Will Do

You will develop, validate, and optimize the integrated assembly process and automation sequence. You will own gantry, robotic, PLC/HMI, servo, sensor, vision, and AI-inspection system performance from commissioning through serial production. You will define and validate operating sequences, safety interlocks, error proofing, fault handling, manual recovery, and controlled restart modes. You will lead FAT, SAT, machine runoff, installation, commissioning, debug, Run@Rate, and production handover activities. You will drive throughput, automation uptime, cycle time, MTBF, and MTTR improvements, coordinate supplier technical actions and punch-list closure, and support process simulation and future digital-twin development with accurate machine logic and production data.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Automation, Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Controls Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience with automated automotive manufacturing or comparable industrial systems

  • Hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, industrial robots, servo motion, sensors, safety circuits, industrial networks, and vision systems

  • Experience with equipment commissioning, supplier management, machine acceptance, and production launches

  • Ability to read electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and controls documentation and lead multidisciplinary troubleshooting

  • Systems thinking, structured troubleshooting under production pressure, and supplier and change-control management

Why This Move Makes Sense

  • You own the automation sequence from commissioning through serial production - including robotic cells, gantry systems, vision and AI inspection - not reactive maintenance on systems someone else designed

  • The company is actively building toward a digital-twin architecture and already running AI-inspection systems, which means this role is about where automation is going, not just where it has been

  • You are joining a Fortune-level global company with Freudenberg Group backing - the stability and engineering infrastructure of a world-class industrial organization, with the ownership you would expect from a smaller shop

  • Cranberry Township or Evansville-area candidates - Morganfield is within range and the compensation reflects what serious automation ownership is worth
