Automation Engineer – Industrial Environment

Overview
The Automation Engineer supports the operation and improvement of automated systems within a heavy industrial environment. This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing control systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production.

Compensation: $120,000 - $140,000 per year (potential flexibility up to $145,000 for an exceptional candidate)

Location: Florence, AL

Responsibilities

• Program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC systems (Siemens and Allen-Bradley preferred)
• Support operations by resolving automation and control issues
• Optimize equipment performance through continuous improvement initiatives
• Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to reduce downtime
• Modify and improve HMI/SCADA systems as needed
• Assist with new equipment installations, upgrades, and commissioning

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Experience programming PLCs, especially Siemens and Allen-Bradley
• Background in industrial automation, preferably in manufacturing or heavy industry
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Familiarity with HMI/SCADA systems
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Heavy industrial experience in chemical, petrochemical, paper, pulp, forest products, glass, cement, minerals processing, metals processing, or heavy equipment manufacturing is strongly preferred.
