About the job:
The Automation Technician will act as a hands-on contributor in the design, installation, and optimization of automated manufacturing systems. The ideal candidate will use technical expertise and creativity to support continuous improvement initiatives for both new and existing processes. You will provide day-to-day automation support, while taking ownership of small-scale development efforts and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive solutions from concept to implementation.
What you will do:
· Proactively support development and installation efforts to increase efficiency or implement cost reductions using automation in current injection molding areas (black molding and clear molding)
· Proactively support development and installation efforts to increase efficiency or implement cost reductions for ferrule posting areas (black molding and clear molding)
· Periodically lead automation improvement efforts, coordinating with other engineers or technicians as needed to ensure alignment with larger project goals
· Identify and suggest improvements to technical documentation, including work instructions, schematics, and process documentation for both manual and automated workflows
· Monitor automated processes and inspect output to ensure product quality and process consistency, adjusting systems or making changes as needed
· Provide first-line technical support for automation-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and effective troubleshooting
· Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on automation equipment; escalate and coordinate complex repairs when required
· Work with other business units as required in support of additional automation projects
· Support and occasionally lead training for operators, technicians, or engineers on new or modified automation systems
What we'd like you to have:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering Technology preferred. Minimum of associate’s degree in related technical field.
· Minimum 2–4 years’ hands-on experience in a medium volume manufacturing environment (injection molding, die casting, machining, assembly, etc.)
· Strong mechanical aptitude in maintaining automated equipment
· Working knowledge of machining, tools, jigs, fixturing, and assembly practices
· Experience with 2D and 3D CAD for design and understanding documentation schematics, programs, components, and assemblies
· Familiar with PLCs and HMIs, with the ability to assist in program loading, testing, and diagnostics
· Self-starter with creative problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing them
· Solid understanding of machining, tooling, assembly processes, and safety considerations in an industrial environment
· Strong analytical and excellent communication skills
· Proficient PC skills with standard MS Office software
