Automation Service Technician

Are you an experienced automation technician with a passion for solving complex problems and working on leading-edge technology? We are looking for skilled and versatile Automation Service Technicians to join our team! This is an exciting opportunity to work with a variety of systems, from PLCs and robotics to industrial networks, while traveling to customer sites, worldwide, for installations, troubleshooting, and on-site support.

Job Summary: The Service Technician will support existing equipment and assembly projects as needed. This will include Installation, build, debug, on-site support, remote support, Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), Site Acceptance Test (SAT), and documentation. This position also includes Service support for: Training, Service/Warranty Triage, retrofit, and change support.

Key Responsibilities:

• On-Site & Remote Support: Travel to customer locations to evaluate, install, debug, and provide critical support for equipment and assembly projects.
• System Design & Modification: Work closely with the project team to design and implement electrical and mechanical system modifications, including debugging control system software and refining Human-Machine Interface (HMI) programs.
• Project Collaboration: Support mechanical and electrical build efforts, work with AutoCad Electrical for drawing changes, and assist with Factory and Site Acceptance Tests (FAT and SAT).
• Troubleshooting & System Integration: Troubleshoot complex interconnections of peripheral hardware such as servo motors, robots, vision systems, and industrial network communications.
• Wiring & Plumbing: Support and assist with the wiring, plumbing, and mechanical aspects of the systems when needed.
• Adherence to Safety & Standards: Follow established controls standards and procedures, ensuring safety at all times.

• Communicate with the project team as needed.
• Travel 30-50%

Education & Experience:

• Associate degree in one of the following or equivalent experience:
  • AS Electrical Engineering
  • AS Mechatronics Engineering
  • AS Robotics & Manufacturing Engineering Technology
  • AS Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • AS Computer Engineering Technology
    

Mechanical Experience:

• Mechanical assembly utilizing layout and detail drawings.
• Mechanical alignment and troubleshooting.
  

Controls Hardware Experience:

• AutoCAD Electrical: Modifications/additions to existing designs.
• Pneumatic/Fluid modifications: Changes to existing designs (SMC, Festo, Numatics, etc.).
• Familiarity with codes and specifications: NFPA79, UL508a, CSA, CE, CCC.
• Electrical panel build and electrical field wiring.
• Pneumatic/Fluid field plumbing.
  

Controls Programming/Debug Experience:

• PLCs, HMIs, Motion Controls: Allen-Bradley & Siemens.
• Robots: Teaching, program modifications/additions (Fanuc, ABB, Espon, Staubli, Kuka).
• Vision: Program modifications/additions (Cognex, Keyence).
• Industrial Networking: Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, ModbusTCP, DeviceNet, RS232.
  

Electromechanical Experience:

• Industrial Sensors/Transducers: Proximity, Hall Effect, photoelectric, color, force, displacement, pressure, flow, level, temperature.
• Industrial Peripherals: Leak testers, electrical testers, laser markers, laser welders, servo presses, force/displacement monitors.
