Job Description - Automation Technician

Company Description

Spartanburg Steel Products is a major supplier of metal stampings and welded sub-assemblies for automotive,  lawn & garden, agricultural, and construction equipment OEMs throughout the United States:

Job Description

The Automation Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing automated systems that support SSP’s stamping operations. This role plays a key part in ensuring optimal performance and uptime of production equipment, with a focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot stamping automation equipment, including robotics, sensors, and press line automation systems. 
  • Support robotic operations including teach points, program changes, and minor edits
  • Diagnose root causes of automation failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic blueprints and schematics.
  • Document work performed and update equipment records in the CMMS system.
  • Follow all safety procedures and ensure compliance with OSHA, company standards, and lockout/tagout practices.
  • Program computer to reset after equipment faults
  • Create programs for jobs that have not run previously
  • Updates ILU charts as needed
  • Train and maintain records of associates on presses
  • Perform all assigned PM’s for assigned presses
  • 5S:  identify improvement areas / programs
  • Job tasks may change depending on operational needs, production, & work schedules of the employer.

 

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of automated and robotics equipment.
  • Experience in similar manufacturing industry in similar role.
  • Physical ability to bend, stoop, stand and repetitively lift, push, and pull 50 or more lbs. continuously throughout assigned work shift.  
  • Moderate physical effort required including sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, squatting & grasping.
  • Must be able to work in varying temperatures.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions / directions in English.
  • Must be willing to always wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on the production floor.
  • Ability and desire to perform other duties as assigned as it relates to the scope and nature of our business.
