Job Description - Automotive Controller


 

Job Type: Full-time
Location: Fife, WA
Reports To: CFO
Salary: $105,000 - $144,000 annually
 

DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS POSITION UNLESS YOU HAVE PRIOR EXPERIENCE AS AN ACCOUNTING MANAGER FOR A RETAIL AUTOMOTIVE DEALERSHIP.  Ideal candidates will have served as controller over the accounting office(s) serving multiple dealerships.

Larson Automotive Group is looking for a seasoned Automotive Controller to take ownership of our dealership’s accounting operations. This isn’t just a numbers role—it’s a leadership opportunity for a confident, experienced professional who understands the nuances of retail automotive accounting and thrives in a team-first environment.

You’ll work closely with leadership and department managers, guide a team of administrative professionals, and play a direct role in the financial health of our organization. What You’ll Do

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Prepare accurate, timely monthly financial statements in compliance with dealership and manufacturer standards
  • Analyze and interpret financial results to support strategic decisions
  • Reconcile manufacturer statements, warranty claims, rebates, interest, and co-op accounts
  • Ensure floorplan payments are timely, and accounts are accurately reconciled
  • Calculate and file sales tax and financial incentive (FI) submissions monthly
  • Monitor contracts in transit and vehicle receivables to support cash flow
  • Oversee petty cash and manufacturer financial accounts
  • Provide financial reporting support to department managers

General Ledger & Compliance

  • Manage the general ledger and schedules, investigating and resolving anomalies
  • Train and support staff in reconciliation and schedule maintenance
  • Monitor monthly schedules for accuracy and internal compliance

Leadership & Team Oversight

  • Lead a team of 20–22 administrative professionals, alongside three additional supervisors
  • Guide hiring, training, and performance management in alignment with company goals
  • Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and mutual respect

What You Bring

  • Proven experience in retail automotive dealership accounting leadership
  • Deep understanding of manufacturer reporting requirements and dealership operations
  • Strong command of financial reporting, compliance, and reconciliation
  • Natural leadership ability—you guide with confidence, not ego
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with peers and managers
  • Experience with dealership systems is a plus

Time Off & Holidays

Paid Time Off (PTO):

                  o Accrual begins on your first day.

                  o Eligible to use after 90 days of employment.

                  o Accrual schedule:

                           0–2 years: 1 hour per 40 hours worked

                           3–10 years: 1.53 hours per 40 hours worked

                           10+ years: 2.30 hours per 40 hours worked

Paid Holidays: Hourly employees receive six paid holidays per year.

Requirements

 

  • Prior experience in retail automotive dealership accounting management is required.
  • Strong understanding of dealership financial statements, general ledger accounting, and manufacturer reporting.
  • Experience managing cash flow, floor plan reconciliation, and tax computations.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to train and mentor staff.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and dealership management systems (DMS).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
