Job Description - Automotive Diagnostic Technician

Our Automotive diagnostic technician use specialized tools and diagnostic software to identify problems within a vehicle's various systems by performing inspections, tests, and analysis, then communicates the findings to determine necessary repairs, often requiring a deep understanding of electrical, mechanical, and computer systems within a vehicle,  all while ensuring a vehicle is safe and functioning properly. 


 


Key responsibilities of an automotive diagnostic technician:




  • Vehicle diagnostics: Utilize diagnostic scanners and other specialized tools to read fault codes, interpret data, and pinpoint malfunctioning components in engine, transmission, brakes, electrical systems, and other vehicle systems. 


  • Visual inspections: Conduct thorough visual inspections of vehicle components to identify potential issues like worn parts, fluid leaks, and damage. 


  • Road testing: Test drive vehicles to verify reported symptoms and assess the extent of problems. 


  • Component testing: Perform specific tests on individual components like sensors, actuators, and electrical circuits to isolate the root cause of a malfunction. 


  • Repair planning: Develop repair plans based on diagnostic findings, including necessary parts and labor estimates. 


  • Repair execution: Perform repairs and replacements of faulty components according to manufacturer specifications. 

  • Servicer Advisor communication:

Explain diagnostic findings and repair recommendations to Service Advisor in a clear and understandable manner. 



  • Documentation: Accurately document repair details on work orders, including parts used and time spent. 
Required skills and qualifications:




  • Strong mechanical aptitude: Thorough understanding of how vehicles work, including engine systems, electrical systems, and various automotive components. 


  • Diagnostic software proficiency: Ability to use advanced diagnostic scanners and interpret the data they provide. 


  • Hand tool expertise: Skillful use of various hand tools for inspection, disassembly, and reassembly. 


  • Problem-solving skills: Ability to analyze complex problems, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions. 


  • Attention to detail: Meticulous approach to identifying even minor issues and ensuring accurate diagnoses. 


  • Communication skills: Clearly explaining technical information to customers and other technicians. 

  • Staying updated 

Keep up-to-date with the latest automotive technology, diagnostic tools, and repair procedures through training and professional development. 



Requirements:



  • 5+ years of experience as an Automotive Technician

  • ASE certification preferred

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Requirements:
 
 
High school diploma or equivalent.
 Completion of an automotive service technician program or equivalent experience.
 ASE certification or equivalent experience preferred.
 Ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and repair automotive issues.
 Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
 Excellent communication and customer service skills.
