Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Automotive Sales Manager to lead our sales team and drive vehicle sales at our dealership. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of the automotive industry, and a proven track record in sales management. This role involves developing strategic sales initiatives, managing customer relationships, and ensuring the achievement of sales targets through effective team oversight and client engagement. This position contributes to the success of the dealership by successfully achieving sales goals and objectives relevant to the components of the dealership strategic plan.


 


 


Duties


The primary duties consist of by are not limited to the following.




  • Department Management: Manage all aspects of the new and used car departments, including dealer trades, wholesales, retail sales, purchasing, and marketing activities.


  • Staff Supervision: Supervise Sales Staff, Porters, and Detailers, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient operations.


  • Staff Management: Hire, Train, and mentor sales staff to achieve sales targets and build a strong team. Coach and mentor all sales staff to achieve all OEM, dealer KPI's and CSI mandates for sales departments, driving performance and customer satisfaction.


  • Technical Proficiency: Utilize internet and retail tools such as V-Auto and E-Car list to optimize sales and inventory management.


  • Data and Software usage: Utilize all company databases and software according to company trained processes and procedures to maintain accurate records and efficient operations.


  • Sales Forecasting: Forecast monthly and annual vehicle sales goals, gross profit, unit sales, and key expenses to drive departmental performance.


  • Financial Planning: Determine monthly and annual forecasts for unit sales and gross profit to guide departmental financial performance.


  • Sales Skills: Demonstrate strong closing abilities and work effectively with lenders to secure financing options for customers.


  • Market Growth: Implement strategies to increase sales volume and market share through effective sales techniques and customer engagement.


  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.


  • Customer Experience: Address and resolve customer issues or concerns promptly and professionally to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction. Delivering an exceptional customer experience and being able to maintain high customer satisfaction and long-term loyalty is important to us.


  • Customer Complaint Resolution: Address customer complaints and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction by providing effective and timely solutions.


  • Sales Objectives: Establish clear sales objectives and develop plans for achieving them in collaboration with each sales product specialist.


  • Online Pricing: Determine accurate online pricing for vehicles based on current market conditions and geographical areas to maximize sales opportunities.


  • Prospecting: Follow established prospecting steps and procedures to identify and engage potential customers.


  • Product Knowledge: Maintain comprehensive knowledge of new product features, accessories, and processes to effectively inform and assist customers and sales staff.


  • Business Development: Identify and qualify business opportunities both internally and with vendors to enhance departmental growth.


  • Vehicle Appraisals: Accurately appraise vehicles to ensure fair and competitive pricing.


  • Advertising Planning: Create monthly advertising plans based on manufacturer incentives and available inventory to maximize marketing effectiveness.


  • Inventory Display: Display and merchandise new and used vehicle inventory on the lot to attract customers and optimize sales opportunities.


  • Meeting and Training Attendance: Attend meetings and training sessions as scheduled to stay informed and enhance professional skills.


  • Sales Meetings: Conduct daily sales meetings to review the prior day's business, establish daily action plans using our CRM tool, and ensure team alignment.


  • Training Certification: Maintain training certification for each Manufacturer to stay up to date with all products.


  • Success: To succeed in this role, you must be punctual, follow directions accurately, work collaboratively with team members, adhere to company policies and procedures, and be open to receiving constructive criticism.


  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the department and dealership.

  • Education and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred. A minimum of 3-5 years of equivalent/relevant work experience in a dealership sales environment is necessary.


  • Management Skills: Proven ability to effectively manage and lead a team.


  • Regulatory Compliance: Must understand and stay current with federal, state, and local regulations affecting operations and ensure compliance.


  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills are essential for interacting with customers, employees, and vendors.


  • Availability: Must be able to work extended hours, evenings, holiday, and weekends as needed.


  • Language Skills: Must demonstrate the ability to communicate orally or in written form effectively with co-workers, potential and current clients, ability to read, analyze and interpret written and verbal instructions. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, including writing grammatically correct emails and text messages. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers.


  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages. Ability to calculate ETA of product by giving time frame in date and clock time format.


  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Demonstrate the ability to anticipate and solve practical problems or resolve issues. Ability to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.


  • Driving Requirements: Valid driver's license and proof of insurance are required. must have a clean driving record and be able to pass an MVR and background check.


Physical Requirements: The physical demands described are essential for the successful performance of this role. Reasonable accommodation will be considered to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.


This position requires a consistent work schedule of 5 days per week, with daily shifts ranging from 8 to 10 hours. Core requirements include the ability to communicate effectively through speech and hearing. The role frequently involves walking and utilizing hands and arms for reaching. Employees should be capable of sitting or standing as needed. The position may require navigating uneven surfaces and climbing stairs periodically. Reaching, lifting, and filing documents or materials at various heights are also required.


Proficiency in keyboarding is essential. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing 25-30 pounds. Specific abilities necessary for this role include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, employees may be exposed to fumes/odors of automotive shop related surroundings and other hazardous materials. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Primary environment: Various conditions including cold and heat, and indoor/outdoor settings including warehouse, service area, and outside of the building. Walking primarily on unleveled surfaces for periodic periods throughout the day. Including surfaces that may have automotive fluids and uneven terrain.
