Job Description - Autonomous Systems Software Test Engineer

Metron's Reston team is seeking an Autonomous Systems Software Test Engineer to contribute to the development and deployment of algorithms, mission management tools, mission analysis tools, and simulations tools for UUV/USV vehicle autonomy. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, executing, and maintaining test cases, plans and procedures to evaluate and validate these tools. 


The candidate will collaborate with stakeholders and the software team to determine requirements to be verified through testing. They will also aid in analyzing post-mission data from test events, to help developers identify and correct defects.  


Responsibilities 



  • Design, execute, and debug test plans of applications based on software requirements and technical specifications.  

  • Manage test cases and executions using a test management tool. 

  • Provide solutions for integrating QA process into current development and release process.  

  • Collaborate with software development team to design a comprehensive automated testing approach for new features. 

  • Run manual testing of autonomy and related tools and validating results. 

  • Analyze logs and telemetry data from on-vehicle tests to identify and report issues. 

  • Document results and generating historical analysis of applications’ state and stability. 

  • Document anomalies and defects in a maintained issue tracking database. 

  • Work with software team to deploy, operate, and maintain application test instances and/or networks. 

  • Ensure compliance with general software development, testing, and maintenance best practices. 

  • Ensure data integrity standards. 

  • Participate in application planning meetings. 

  • Evaluate software ease of usability and error handling procedures. 

  • Collaborate with software engineering teams. 


 Required Qualifications: 



  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or related field.

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in QA.

  • Strong knowledge of quality assurance methodologies, test plans, and debugging.

  • Must possess excellent written and verbal skills to communicate with development team and external partners.

  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • US Citizenship required; successful candidates will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.


Desired Qualifications:  



  • Experience with evaluating quality of non-deterministic, probabilistic systems. 
    Experience with scenario-based validation that is difficult to automate. 

  • Previous experience working with autonomous systems or robotics. 

  • Previous test automation experience. 

  • Experience with one or more programming languages.

  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, microservices and related tools. 

  • Experience with Linux and Bash scripting. 

  • Ability to travel to testing and client sites.
