Position Summary

Marriott Vacations Worldwide is seeking an experienced and innovative AVP of Data Science and & Advanced Analytics leader to lead the data science team as part of our Global Data and Analytics. The Associate Vice President, Data Science & Advanced Analytics will help build and mature MVW’s data, analytics, and data science capabilities. This role will report to the SVP, Global Data & Analytics. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in data science, machine learning, operational research, and advanced analytics, with a focus on driving strategic insights to optimize our business operations, enhance customer experiences, and contribute to the company's growth.

Expected Contributions

As a member of the Global Data Analytics team for Marriott Vacations Worldwide, the

AVP, Data Science & Advanced Analytics

will lead and develop a team of data scientists and analysts focused on advancing our efforts in the areas of AI/ML and Operational Research. This role will work with the other D&A pillars, IT, and other stakeholders on the mobilization, delivery, and production support for these efforts. We are looking for a dynamic, innovative and caring leader with advanced analytics and interpersonal skills to create and define actionable analytics solutions for key stakeholders.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Leadership:

Provide visionary leadership to the data science team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data science initiatives with business goals and strategies.

2. Strategy and Planning:

Develop and implement a comprehensive data science strategy, identifying key opportunities and challenges.

Work closely with senior management to define and prioritize data science projects that align with business objectives.

3. Data Analysis and Modeling:

Oversee the development and deployment of advanced analytics, including optimization, simulation and machine learning models, to extract valuable insights from data.

Lead efforts to enhance predictive modeling, segmentation, and customer profiling to optimize marketing, sales, inventory management, pricing, etc.

4. Data Infrastructure:

Evaluate and enhance data infrastructure to ensure efficient storage, retrieval, and analysis of timeshare data.

Collaborate with IT teams to implement cutting-edge technologies that support data science initiatives.

5. Collaboration and Communication:

Foster collaboration with key stakeholders, including marketing, sales, operations, and finance, to identify data science opportunities that drive business impact.

Communicate complex data science concepts and findings to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and actionable manner.

6. Team Development:

Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing data science team, providing guidance on technical skills, project management, and career growth.

Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the data science team.

Candidate Profile

Education:

Master's or Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, or related field.

Experience:

Proven experience (8+ years) in data science, with a focus on the travel or timeshare industry.

Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills with a track record of successfully leading data science teams.

6 years' supervisory experience.

Proficiency in machine learning, statistical modeling, and data analysis tools (Python, R, etc.).

Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Experience with big data technologies, cloud platforms, and data visualization tools.
