SUMMARY
This position's main aspect is to provide a positive and proactive essential leadership role. This position oversees the main hospital floor with the exam room (receiving services) and the operating room services. Daily functions will mostly consist of directing the hospital's flow by providing direction and assistance to technicians, other personnel services, volunteers, and support staff. Guides staff in making appropriate decisions and implementing policies and procedures; coordinates with the anesthesia team and surgeons to ensure the daily schedule runs smoothly. This position is a working supervisor and performs routine and surgical nursing care functions on patients such as surgical preparation, aseptic technique, and pre-surgical treatments. Also, it requires the input of daily charges into the system and completes surgical records.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

· Assist in providing clinical support to doctors, managers, and other technicians.
· Performs and monitors sedated and anesthetized patients along with their care.
· Capable of successfully training newly hired surgical technicians in anesthesia and analgesia.
· Proficient in and can train others in specialized procedures and diagnostic testing relevant to the service(s) needed.
· Teaches and upholds technical procedures and protocols to fellow technicians.
· Maintains by monitoring the workload of functional areas, identifying peak and slack periods, and making operational or staffing
adjustments.
· Maintains equipment performance by establishing quality standards; developing operations, quality, and troubleshooting procedures;
ensuring staff compliance; certifying instrument performance; and arranging equipment replacement, service, and repair.
· Provides and maintains an active role in advanced customer service for clients and rDVMs.
· Assist the Vet Tech Manager/Assistant Practice Manager with the professional development of team members.
· Provides instruction to technicians in techniques, protocols, and procedures.
· Maintains open communication with the Vet Tech Manager/Assistant Practice Manager.
· Maintains a “lead by example” mentality while helping to promote a positive working environment for fellow technicians, veterinarians,
receptionists, and fellow managers.
· Works alongside fellow technicians on assigned case rotation when not directly training fellow technicians.
· Assist with Controlled Drug inventory and accurate counts.

● Participates in at least five internal or external continuing education credit hours annually, including annual OSHA (Occupational
Safety and Health Administration) training.

QUALIFICATIONS
● CVT/LVT preferred but not required. Equivalent previous job experience will be considered.
● 4+ years of job-specific experience working as a Veterinary Technician in veterinary medicine.
● 1+ year of job-specific experience working in a specialty referral practice in the surgery department.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
● Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, and move) up to 50 pounds. Lifting higher
weights require requesting assistance from other team members.
● Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and
operate necessary equipment.
● Ability to conduct instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
● Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision.
● Occasionally exposed to airborne particles and illness from patients and chemicals related to animal care and office equipment.
● The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
