Primary Location: Hybrid (2 days on-site) Downtown Chicago
Position Type: Contract to Hire (NO 3rd Parties or C2C) Must be independent (W2 GC or USC)

Overview
AWS Cloud Senior Systems Administrator
This is a hybrid position. Candidates must live within a 100-mile radius of our home office in Chicago, IL. Onsite 2 days a week

Your Purpose:
This is a Contract to hire role that is Hybrid. As an AWS Senior Systems Administrator/Engineer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the observability and support of our mission-critical systems. manages and supports the core technology infrastructure of the organization (on-premise primarily Windows and some Linux servers and AWS cloud), including a variety of critical business systems. Partnering with the Information Technology Manager, the organization’s managed service provider, and respective stakeholders, this person will ensure the core technology infrastructure meets the needs of the organization and is aligned with the SOA’s strategic technology goals and priorities. This position is responsible for ensuring these core technology services are reliable and well supported.

Manage on-premise and cloud network infrastructure (40%)
Manage switches, firewalls, and wireless networks

Identifying, developing, implementing, and improving infrastructure/operations activities for automation, particularly with AWS.
Monitoring and mitigating issues across a diverse production footprint.
Troubleshooting and resolving issues in all environments with detailed root cause analysis.
Contributing to team efforts in maintaining processes and tools for infrastructure, monitoring, and operations.
Creating and refining tools and scripts to monitor and measure application performance.
Implementing strategies for optimization, high availability, and recovery.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams
Administer DNS and email reputation controls (DMARC, SPF, DKIM)
Handle VPN and servers (physical and virtual)
Lead Active Directory for directory services
Ensure software updates, patch management, and license compliance
Implement power management and environmental controls (UPS)
Manage, support & perform system administration on key critical business systems (30%)
Administer Office 365, Azure AD, and AWS Cloud infrastructure
Manage Email defense system
Manage, coordinate and execute aspects of the organization’s IT business continuity plans (15%)
Conduct annual disaster recovery planning and testing
Ensure regular successful backup of critical data and systems
Perform quarterly tests for data restoration from backups
Monitor and secure physical facilities, particularly the data center
Maintain environmental conditions in the data center according to standards
Manage and support key elements of the organization’s IT security controls (15%)
Manage endpoint protection, patch management, email defense, and multi-factor-authentication (MFA) systems
Ensure secure hardening of network, servers, and workstations
Conduct security scanning for compliance (e.g., PCI Compliance, PII data)
Working with the appropriate vendors, perform aspects of the IT procurement and asset management process (5%)
Maintain inventory of essential IT components to minimize turnaround time for replacements and additions
Process, document, and approve vendor invoices within specified limits
Manage, track, and audit the organization’s software licenses
Perform day-to-day Help Desk support, as needed (5%)
Answer Help Desk phone, monitor mailbox, process/resolve support requests
Coordinate end user training, perform administrative functions on various platforms
Research, evaluate, and recommend vendors and products within established priorities
Collaborate with IT Manager to review and recommend technology use policies

What You’ll Need:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science preferred, or equivalent work experience.
Minimum 7 years in Information Technology with a minimum five (5) years of hands-on experience in management of local networks, telecommunication systems, and security.
2 years of experience with AWS services including EC2, Docker / ECS, CloudWatch, ALB/ELB, S3, VPC, CodeCommit/git, Route53 DNS, RDS.
2 years of experience in SaaS monitoring tools (e.g., LogicMonitor, CloudWatch, New Relic, DataDog) and troubleshooting/debugging techniques.
2 years of experience in Windows and Linux administration.
2 years of experience with web servers such as IIS, Apache, Tomcat.
2 years of experience in Docker / Container management (Amazon Elastic Container Service, Fargate).
Strong scripting abilities (Python, PowerShell, AWS CLI) and Infrastructure as Code knowledge. - Strong knowledge in Infrastructure as Code tools (CloudFormation, Terraform).
Understanding of infrastructure operations best practices and IT Operations leveraging high availability strategies.
Continuous learning mindset and adaptability to new technologies.
Availability to support systems on-call after hours on a rotation basis.
AWS Certification (SysOps or SA) - current or in progress
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft platforms, including Windows 10/11, Server 2016/2019/2022.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Azure Administration in a Hybrid environment.
Expertise in Active Directory Services (GPO, LDAP, DNS, DHCP, Certificates).
Experience with managing virtual private cloud(s) in Amazon Cloud Web Services (AWS)
Experience with VMWare (ESXi, vCenter, and VxRail).
