Job Description - Back of the House Line Cook

Description

  • Prepare and Cook Food: Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation guidelines to prepare high-quality dishes in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
     
  • Station Management: Maintain and manage designated cooking stations (e.g., grill, fry, sauté, etc.) to ensure smooth and efficient service.
     
  • Ensure Food Safety and Cleanliness: Adhere to health and safety regulations, including proper handling, storage, and sanitation of ingredients and equipment.
     
  • Work Under Pressure: Execute orders efficiently and consistently during high-volume service times, ensuring food quality is maintained.
     
  • Assist with Inventory: Monitor inventory levels and communicate with the kitchen manager or sous chef to ensure supplies are replenished.
     
  • Collaborate with Team: Communicate effectively with kitchen staff, including other line cooks, prep cooks, and servers, to ensure proper timing and delivery of dishes.
     
  • Maintain Equipment: Ensure that cooking equipment is in good working order, clean, and properly maintained.
     
  • Plate Presentation: Ensure dishes are plated according to restaurant standards for visual appeal and consistency.
     
  • Adjust Cooking Techniques: Modify cooking methods as needed for special dietary restrictions or customer preferences.
     
  • Support Kitchen Staff: Assist with prep work, cleaning, and any other duties required to support the kitchen team.

Requirements

Key knowledge, skills, and abilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Possesses a commitment and eagerness to provide excellent customer service
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods, with relevant culinary/restaurant experience preferred
  • Organized, able to think and act quickly and effectively while retaining self-composure
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to collaborate with others and work as a team
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely and uphold a positive and enthusiastic attitude
