Backend Engineer (FUNNOW Group)

THE POSITION: Software Engineer (Backend)

For the role of Software Engineer (Backend), we are looking for an experienced and passionate software wizard with the drive to create modern and scalable production applications, to join our fast growing, engineering team.

Reporting to the Backend Lead, this role will be responsible for the execution of planned sprints. He/she must have a growth mindset with the passion for building things and delivering beautiful code to be proud of. 

The ideal candidate is a team player and someone who is a hands-on engineer, enjoys working side by side with the other technology teams to solve tough & ambiguous problems, possess excellent communication, sharp analytical abilities, and are able to think critically of the current system in terms of growth and stability.    

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code, demonstrating your understanding of fundamental programming principles.


• Under the direction of the Backend Lead, take ownership of backend related features / tasks with semi weekly deployments to production environment


• Apply deep, hands-on programming and technical design skills with demonstrated willingness and capability to learn new technologies quickly


• Communicate high level technical strategy and details effectively across departments, locations, and organizations, including to senior leadership


• Strong bias for action; ability to juggle multiple priorities and build a sense of urgency in a dynamic environment. Strategic choice of data structure and algorithms to design and implement the required business logic


• Work with product team, frontend, mobile, and  QA team to ship products incrementally


• Participate in unit testing and integration testing, contributing to the overall quality and reliability of the backend.


• Mentor and coach in-house new & junior team members.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

• BS/MS in Computer Science or other related Degrees


• 2+ years of experience in back-end development and familiarity with at least one back-end development programming language writing and maintaining cloud based, production level applications.


• Extensive knowledge and understanding of distributed data storages (RDBMS, NoSQL, Caching, etc.)


• Experience in API performance tuning.


• Expert in developing distributed applications, specialising in SOA and micro services in particular


• Experience with CI/CD tools like CircleCI and GitHub Actions


• Familiarity with Git


• Good understanding and hands-on experience with scalable, containerised applications, ideally working with Docker and/or Kubernetes


• Background in working in agile engineering processes and teams is a plus

• A team player with the ability to give and receive constructive feedback by working in a transparent and modern engineering culture, and not being afraid to challenge the status quo


• Good English communication skills, sharp analytical abilities, able to think critically of the current system in terms of growth and stability
