Position Overview

The Bakery role is central to the success of the Wonderstate Café, combining the responsibilities of both Baker and Bakery Prep. This position is responsible for the preparation, production, and presentation of all baked goods served in the café, including items featured in the bakery case, food menu, and catered events.

Core Responsibilities

• Independently produce high-quality baked goods for the café menu and bakery case


• Follow established recipes and presentation standards with consistency and care


• Prepare ingredients, doughs, batters, toppings, and fillings as needed for daily production


• Manage timing and sequencing for baking, proofing, and cooling items throughout the day


• Maintain proper labeling, storage, and rotation of all ingredients and finished products


• Practice extreme cleanliness, including dishwashing, equipment cleaning, and daily sanitation tasks


• Set up and break down the bakery station according to opening/closing checklists


• Monitor ingredient inventory, communicate order needs, and assist with weekly restocking


• Collaborate with the Kitchen Lead and Café Manager to meet quality standards and café goals


• Ensure quality control and communicate any issues promptly


• Provide occasional support for café events or catering orders


• Follow Food Safe Serve and state sanitation guidelines


• Contribute positively to team dynamics, express gratitude, and give/receive feedback respectfully


• Uphold Wonderstate’s kitchen processes, values, and expectations

• Ability to follow recipes and kitchen systems with accuracy

• Enthusiasm for learning and producing excellent food


• Passion for ethically sourced, organic, high-quality ingredients


• Prior baking or food production experience preferred but not required
  

Work Environment

• Schedule varies weekly depending on business needs


• Weekend hours are required


• Physical demands include standing for long hours, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs repeatedly


• Participation in quarterly deep cleans, monthly staff meetings, and occasional café events
  

Hours, Wage & Location

• Onsite, Bayfield, WI


• Non-exempt, Full-time position  


• Tipped position - starting wage is $12.00 per hour, based on experience.  Estimated tips are on average between $4-5 on an hourly basis.  
  


• Wonderstate guarantees a minimum of $15.00 per hour for all hourly employees.  If an employee's combined base wage and tips (if applicable) do not meet this rate, Wonderstate will make up the difference.
