Job Description - Bankruptcy Paralegal

KEY DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: 



  • Conduct Monitor U.S. Bankruptcy Court calendars in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach to identify federal-interest cases. 



  • Review referrals from the IRS Insolvency Unit and ensure completeness; follow up on missing documentation. 



  • Coordinate directly with IRS personnel and debtor’s counsel to resolve Chapter 7 and 13 matters favorably for the government. 



  • Independently communicate with debtor’s counsel regarding hearings and case resolutions. 



  • Determine additional agency information needed for AUSAs to effectively represent the government in court. 



  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports on bankruptcy case statuses, outcomes, and quarterly recovery summaries. 



  • Perform legal research and analyze bankruptcy filings to draft pleadings and other legal documents, subject to AUSA review. 



  • Draft and review responses to objections, motions, orders, and a wide range of bankruptcy-related legal documents. 



  • Coordinate discovery in adversary proceedings, including drafting discovery requests and responses with agency input. 



  • Support AUSAs at hearings, depositions, and trials by preparing exhibits and ensuring accurate document handling. 



  • Maintain an active calendar of bankruptcy cases, including deadlines for pleadings, disclosures, and court proceedings. 



  • Assist AUSAs in meeting deadlines related to disclosures, stipulations, and trial preparation materials. 



EXPERIENCE and/or EDUCATION: 



  • Paralegal Certificate preferred. 



  • Experience in bankruptcy litigation or civil collections, including some trial-related experience, is strongly desired. 



  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a legal environment. 



  • Familiarity with legal case management systems and court document filing procedures. 



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: 



  • Strong working knowledge of the U.S. legal system, especially bankruptcy law. 



  • Proficient in legal research techniques and familiar with sources of legal information. 



  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 



  • Ability to analyze legal filings, prepare reports, and draft legal documents under tight deadlines. 



  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal research tools (e.g., PACER, Westlaw, LexisNexis). 



  • Skilled in document preparation, database entry, calendar management, and report generation. 



  • Familiarity with legal terminology, local court rules, and legal automation tools. 



  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and professional demeanor under pressure.
