Barback

JOB SUMMARY

We’re looking for a dedicated Barbacks to assist our bartenders and ensure our bar runs smoothly throughout each shift. The Barback's primary responsibility is to maintain cleanliness behind the bar and keep the bar area properly stocked throughout the shift. Additionally, the barback works directly with the bartender, assisting in a variety of bar operations. Areas of assistance include: greeting guests, taking food & drink orders, pouring beer & wine, printing bar tabs, processing payments, and working with the rest of the bar staff to meet each guest's needs.

Must have availability on Friday and Saturday evenings (5-8pm). Previous experience is preferred but not required. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Adhere to all safety, sanitation, and alcohol beverage control policies
2. Keep bar area clean and organized, including washing glassware, wiping counters, bussing dirty dishes, running bus tubs, emptying trash
3. Stock and maintain side work items including glassware, pints, ice, fruit, stocked kegs, polishing glassware, replacing liquor bottles
4. Help bartender greet guests, answer questions, take food & drink orders
5. Accurately take, ring in, and serve orders to the customers’ specifications
6. Able to use the POS systems with efficiency
7. Assist the bartender in pouring beer, wine, and growlers as needed
8. Knowledge of food, drink, rotating, and specials menus.
9. Complete all opening, closing, and side duties
10. Work as a team with your fellow co-workers and treat each other with kindness & respect

Qualifications

Must be 21 years of age or older with a current TAPS Card and Municipality of Anchorage Food Worker Card. Previous serving or bartending experience is preferred but not required.

1. Stand for the duration of the shift with minimal breaks
2. Work in noisy, fast-paced environments with distracting conditions
3. Lift and carry 30+ lbs
4. Have good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
5. Bend, reach, stoop, move quickly, and wipe frequently
6. Work in close proximity to coworkers in a fast-paced environment
7. Self-motivation and the ability to manage time and accomplish tasks with accuracy and efficiency 
8. Strong customer service, multitasking, and communication skills
9. Maintain a friendly, positive, and professional attitude
10. Basic knowledge of alcoholic beverage terminology
