Job Description - Barista

Description

  

 The atmosphere throughout the Duquesne Club is one that “welcomes” every 

member with a smile and eye contact. One must be professional, friendly, engaging and helpful 

at all times providing a memorable experience for all. 

The primary responsibility of the Barista is to deliver an exceptional and welcoming experience to 

Duquesne Club members utilizing the coffee cart.  This is accomplished through outstanding 

customer service, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high standards for food and 

beverage quality.  The Barista plays a key role in ensuring the coffee cart is clean, well-stocked, 

and visually appealing at all times.

The Barista must also: 

Practice safety first and emergency guidelines following all procedures set by the club, state and Allegheny County.

Thoroughly sanitize with approved sanitizer, all work stations and fixtures utilized during shift.

Follow OSHA guidelines with regard to the handling and properly disposing of cleaning supplies and chemicals. Attend “Right to Know” trainings as scheduled. Practice proper lifting techniques, etc.

Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. For instance, disposable gloves should be worn for all tasks in the cleaning process, including trash handling.

Greet members in a courteous and friendly manner; provide prompt, personalized service.

Prepare and serve a variety of coffee and espresso beverages, teas, and light food items according to Duquesne Club recipes and standards.

Utilize the POS system.

Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the coffee cart area, including all equipment, utensils, and surfaces.

Monitor the freshness and presentation of all food and beverage items on a daily basis.

Restock cups, condiments, syrups, milk, and other supplies throughout the day to ensure seamless service.

Perform opening and closing duties, including setup, restocking, cleaning, and securing of the cart and supplies.

Report inventory needs and assist with placing orders for supplies when necessary.

Follow all food safety and hygiene regulations in accordance with Club and health department standards.

Be attentive and receptive to all member comments. Bring issue that arise to the attention of the manager. 

Support special Club events or functions as needed, providing coffee service and assistance where requested.

Observe all grooming and personal hygiene standards and rules of conduct, policies and procedures established for the Club. 

Attends Club meetings/trainings as assigned.

Ensure that all safety, emergency procedures, and OSHA standards are practiced. Reporting any hazards or injuries to their 

supervisor or human resources.

Must be respectful of other employees and help out when requested. Team work is important—together everyone achieves more.

May be required to perform any related duty as requested that is not listed within this job description.

Special Qualifications: 

Knowledge of mixing coffee, espresso and specialty drinks. 

Self-motivated to ensure all tasks completed and ability to work unsupervised during shift.

Physical strength and capability to carry a tray elevated at shoulder level weighing an average of 35 lbs. 

Ability to stand/walk for entire shift, as well as bend, stoop, climb (i.e., ladder, etc.) and reach.

Excellent coordination and manual dexterity.

Commitment to maintaining a clean and organized work area.

Ability to read labels on chemical/cleaning products and determine proper use as well as follow written directions.

Ability to withstand various degrees of temperatures during shift.

Ability to learn Club’s policies and procedures.

Ability to actively listen to others and respond verbally to their request in a professional and effective manner.

Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate effectively and professionally.

Sufficient memory retention to recall member’s names, preferences, etc.

Willingness to respond to reasonable member requests
