JOB OVERVIEW

The Barista position contributes to the overall success of the Food & Beverage Department. You are responsible for delivering hospitality and a great coffee experience to our guests with genuine and personable conversation. Prepares a variety of customer beverage orders such as espresso drinks and Coffee of the Week to Hilton’s standards.

Discover guests’ needs and appropriately suggest a product to every customer to enhance service and meet sales goals. This position is critical to our guest’s overall experience as the Barista must ensure the environment is clean, in order, and stocked for our guests.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide excellent and friendly customer service
  • Provides quality beverages and food products consistently for all customers by adhering to all recipes and presentation standards.
  • Welcome customers and be proactive to address guest needs
  • Grind, brew, and prepare various coffee beverages
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout shifts
  • Point of Sale system operation
  • Follow opening and closing procedures including coffee machine cleaning and maintenance
  • Help team members with their tasks during downtime, which may include some simple food preparation and light cleaning
  • Assist management to teach and train staff members in coffee preparation
  • Adhere to health, safety, and sanitary protocols
  • Upsell other store items
  • Be willing to participate in paid training possible paid pre- official opening tasks
  • Welcomes and connects with every customer to provide excellent guests service.
  • Discover guests’ needs and appropriately suggest products to every customer to enhance service and meet sales goals.
  • Assists guests in the selection and purchase of specialty coffee beverages and food sales (as applicable).
  • Responds to customers’ needs and says thank you to every customer.
  • Demonstrates “just say yes” behavior when taking care of customer needs.
  • Maintains customer service area and equipment cleanly and appealingly.
  • Performs cleaning tasks in accordance with the Duty Rosters and cleaning standards and works as a store team player.
  • Presents oneself professionally and demonstrates clear communication Skills with all customer and partner interactions
  • Prepares a variety of customer beverage orders such as espresso drinks and Coffee of the Week to Hilton standards.
  • Follows cash handling and register policies.
  • Follows standards for merchandising, stocking, rotating, and storing all products.
  • Performs equipment maintenance in accordance with the preventive maintenance checklist.
  • Follows inventory stocking and recording guidelines.
  • Complete all paperwork
  • Opening side work and or closing side work

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Maintain proper grooming and uniform standards.
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to four to eight hours in length.
  • Must have the ability to bend, squat, and lift up to 30 pounds including, but not limited to, pots and pans and trays of food or food items, on a regular and continuing basis.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space and to reach other locations of the hotel on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks.
  • Must be able to exert a well-paced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors, and other employees.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.
  • Bi-lingual preferred. Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Some food preparation experience or training preferred.
  • Prior Barista experience preferred
  • Excellent guest service skills
  • Team player with a positive, outgoing, friendly attitude
  • Possess a valid CA Food Handlers Certificate

OTHER

Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by Hilton from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.

Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Hilton rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities. Employees who violate Hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS

In addition to the performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the hotel.

EDUCATION

High school graduate, preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Experience Education level required: Unspecified Experience (in years): 1 to 2 Years. Previous retail, customer service, restaurant, or fast-food experiences are a plus. English Language is required.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATES

A High School diploma is preferred.

GROOMING

All employees must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance. (Specific Standards are Available in the handbook)

MACHINES/EQUIPMENT

Cash register, computer literate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Able to stand for 8 hours. Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability, and visual acuity.

Fingering: picking, pinching, typing, or working with fingers versus whole hand or arm.

Grasping: Applies pressure with fingers and palm.

Talking: Must convey ideas by spoken word, must convey information quickly and loudly to other workers, or guests.

Hearing: Must perceive the nature of sound; receive detailed information through oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound.

Repetitive Motions: Substantial motions of hands, wrists, and fingers.

Visual: Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual function being those of near vision and depth perception

WORKING CONDITIONS

Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems; however, must be able to work in extreme temperatures like freezers (-10°F) and kitchens (+110°F), possibly for one hour or more.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required when performing work duties that may have the potential of risk to your health or safety. The hotel will provide the required PPE. Team members will be trained in the proper use and care of any assigned PPE. It is your responsibility to report defective, damaged, or lost PPE, or equipment that does not fit properly, to your manager.

SCHEDULE

The work schedule is based on the demands of the business. AM, PM, nights, overnights, weekends, and/or holiday availability are required.
