About The Position
Innovative network of school-based and center-based youth development
programs seeks Middle school and High school Sports Coach for arts education
programming, serving children ages 11-18 years old in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
We are looking for versatile and flexible coach and who are excited to be part of a
creative team. The ideal candidate will possess excellent classroom management.
Strong, sensitive and professional communication skills are a must as well as a
good sense of personal and professional boundaries. Sport
Coaches must have a culturally sensitive approach to working with diverse
populations. Applicants should have experience working with youth.
Saturday Night Lights is a youth development program that provides young
people with safe, fun, and engaging activities on Saturday nights. Originally
launched in New York City, the initiative aims to keep youth off the streets during
high-risk hours by offering sports, recreation, and enrichment programs at local
gyms and community centers. It’s a collaborative effort between city agencies and
community organizations to promote safety, prevent violence, and support
positive youth development.
Responsibilities:
• Teach assigned content area (BASKETBALL- PERFERRED)
• Plan, and run practices, such as age appropriate scrimmages
• Mentor and motivate youth, serve as a positive role model, encouraging
teamwork, and good sportsmanship
• Collaborate in designing literacy-based art curricula that align with
recognized learning standards
• Supervise and ensure the safety and welfare of participants at all times
• Keep students engaged and create a classroom culture of respect and
participation
• Participate in recruitment and retention of program participants
• Supervise and/or provide first aid/CPR
• Complete any other duties assigned by Supervisor(s)
Eligibility & Qualifications
Coach Across America AmeriCorps Coaches must complete the following requirements to ensure successful completion of
the AmeriCorps program:
• Completion of the minimum required hours of service and training by the last day of the coach contract.
• Attendance at the Coach Across America Coach orientation.
• Completion of bi-weekly timesheets.
• Attendance at days of community service.
• Attend/participate in Coach Across America trainings, meetings, and special initiatives.
• Attend Coach Training Institute (date to be announced by Field Manager).
Additionally, the Coach Across America AmeriCorps Coach will:
• Encourage participants to gain and develop life skills, knowledge, and techniques through sport, using lessons learned at Coach Across America's best-in-class training events.
• Perform data collection activities, as directed by your Coach Across America Field Manager.
• Act as a role model, gaining the respect and trust of the community and youth served.
Uniform Policy:
Coaches must wear Coach Across America branded t-shirts provided by Coach Across America with the AmeriCorps logo when
coaching and at program sessions and events.

Schedule:
• Saturdays 5-9pm
• Subject to change, Maybe Fridays and longer Saturday work times.
