Job Summary
QSAC is looking for committed and collaborative Behavior Intervention Specialists (BIS) to support our Direct Support Professionals (DSP) in the Residential Program. These positions must be able to travel to assigned residential locations in Manhattan, Bronx, Queens and Long Island locations. As a BIS you will provide functional behavioral analysis and behavior/psychological assessments, develop and monitor behavior support plans and assist with the development and implementation of individual goals.
Responsibilities
Behavior Analysis, Implementation & Observation
• Conduct functional behavior analysis
• Prepare behavior support plans to address challenging behaviors
• Assess psychosexual behaviors yearly or as needed for individuals in his/her caseload by using reliable instrument tools [e.g. Sex Knowledge and Attitude Test (SKAT)].
• Communicate with Residential staff regarding behavioral issues of individuals.
• Supervise the implementation of behavioral support plans and assist as needed
• Generate weekly observational reports and monthly progress reports for each individual
• Write clinical presentations for the Human Rights Committee (HRC), Life Plan review meetings, Residential Staff meetings and Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings
• Attend and participate in various meetings and committees. (BIS, HRC, IDT, and residential staff meetings).
• Maintain coordination of active treatment services for people being supported in QSAC Residential Program in accordance with OPWDD regulations
• Write/Design all individual goals and observe goal implementation by Direct Support Professionals
• Monitor/Assess monthly goal progress and update short-term objectives
• Maintain clinical paperwork as regulated by New York State OPWDD regulations
• Provide written goal summary for and participate in interdisciplinary meetings
Training & Support
• Provide training to Direct Support Professionals (DSP) on skills and techniques to support people with autism by implementing the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA)
• Provide direct instruction for goal implementation and proactive and reactive strategies• Train, model, and supervise staff on behavior support plans
• Teach staff applied behavior analysis (ABA) and goal strategies/procedures
• Present lectures in area of expertise and/or teach classes in the Adult Training Series
• Participate and work as part of interdisciplinary team
• Ensure effective communication regarding behavioral issues of individuals
• Complete staff observations and provide feedback
• Be an advocate for improvement in to all facets of the program
• Treat all families with dignity and respect; allow for individual differences; provide an atmosphere of acceptance and caring
Qualifications and Work Experience
• Master's degree in one of the following human services professional fields (including, but not limited to sociology, special education, rehabilitation, counseling or psychology) required
• 1-2 years’ experience and training in applied behavior analysis (ABA) supports for people with autism highly preferred
• General knowledge of theories and principles of behavioral analysis, assessments and goal development preferred
• Experience supporting people with intellectual disabilities/autism required
• Clean and valid Driver’s license is required
• Attention to detail collaboration with a calm demeanor is essential
• Strong written and communication skills are essential
• Ability to safely assist lifting individuals of various weights & 20 lb items.
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced environment is required
• Ability to run when needed
