Behavior Specialist
Grand Junction, CO
One Full-Time Position. 40 Hours per week.
Flexible hours. Typically, 9 to 5pm or 10 to 6pm. May require some evenings and weekends.
Hiring Range: $23.92 to $26.07 / hr. Depending upon education and experience.
This position will remain open until filled.
Minimum Requirements
Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree in behavioral, social, or health science or education.
• Minimum of 6 months experience with behavioral assessments or interventions.
Preferred:
• Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).
• Current enrollment or completion of a Verified Course Sequence for BCBA certification.
• Master’s degree in a related field.

Position Summary
The Behavior Specialist will spend approximately 50% of their time conducting functional assessments and consultations for DD waiver participants, as well as implementing behavior interventions in the role of a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Conduct and analyze behavioral assessments and make recommendations as needed to support behavioral health using a behavior analysis framework.
2. Consult with providers on recommended behavior interventions.
3. Provide behavioral training and support to staff and providers to assist them in utilizing appropriate interventions and behavior management techniques.
4. Implement direct interventions as a registered behavior technician.
5. Maintain timely documentation of services provided.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Understanding of child and adult development.
2. Excellent oral and written communication skills: effectively communicate with people in services, families and guardians, staff, and other parties; excellent presentation skills.
3. Ability to learn, apply, and teach intervention techniques and behavior management skills
while staying current with best practices.
4. Provide excellent customer services and meet professional standards of work.
5. Skilled in maintaining a high level of confidentiality in all areas related to working at Ariel.
6. Ability to work effectively within a team while demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and a positive, respectful attitude in rapidly changing situations.
7. Basic computer knowledge.
8. Ability to exercise independent judgement within the scope and boundaries of the department, the Agency’s Standard Operating Procedures, and Federal, State, and Local Rules and Regulations.
9. Must have reliable and insured transportation available for personal use and for transporting others as needed.
10. Ability to demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance as scheduled and requested.
11. Basic computer skills with the ability to maintain accurate data collection and a foundational understanding of creating and analyzing data and graphs.
Education and Experience
Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree in behavioral, social, or health science or education.
• Minimum of 6 months experience with behavioral assessments or interventions.
Preferred:
• Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).
• Current enrollment or completion of a Verified Course Sequence for BCBA certification.
• Master’s degree in a related field.

1. Valid Colorado Driver’s License and current insurance.

Physical Demands
1. This position requires that the incumbent be capable of bending, sitting, stretching, and/or reaching regularly for periods up to 2 hours without a break.
2. This position requires that the incumbent have adequate hand and finger dexterity to properly perform the functions of the position.
3. This position requires lifting regularly up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds.
4. This position requires the ability to hear and see at a level which is adequate to ensure participant and staff health and safety. Adaptive devices are acceptable.
Work Environment
1. Exposure to typical climate-controlled office environment when in the office.
2. Exposure to blood borne pathogens and infectious disease is possible but limited.
3. Exposure to hazardous chemicals is possible, but limited
4. At times, physical interventions may be required.
