Job Description - Behavior Specialist

Description

Avondale House is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency that provides, educational services to individuals with autism, a day program for adults, where participants receive training in daily living skills and pre-vocational activities and three residential homes for adults unable to live in their own home. 

This position will support the enhancement of the Avondale House school behavior program under the direction of the School Principal. Avondale House has been serving individuals with autism since 1976. To learn more please visit our website at: www.avondalehouse.org.

Job Duties:

· Provides assistance and support to staff in maintaining effective management of student behavior.

· Provides crisis management.

· Develops intervention plans and progress monitoring for students with behavioral concerns.

· Participate as a member of the IEP team as appropriate.

· Coordinates school-based support, as requested, to include identifying and modeling effective behavioral interventions.

· Monitors data profiles of student behavior with staff.

· Collaborates with related service providers to help implement Functional Communication Training, OT/PT skills and others as determined by ARD.

· Attends admission, review, and dismissal (ARD) meetings when appropriate. 

· Works with staff throughout Avondale House to meet the needs of each student.

Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

· Experience in conducting Functional Analysis preferred.

· Working knowledge of standards set forth by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

· Autism specialization and behavior training essential. 

· Patient, authoritative personality.

· Valid Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to implement CPI, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.

· Lifting up to 50 lbs.

· Ability to stand on your feet for 2-3 hours at a time.
