Job Description - Behavior Support Associate

Description

Avondale House is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency that provides, educational services to individuals with autism, a day program for adults, where clients receive training in daily living skills and pre-vocational activities, employment services for those with disabilities and four residential homes for individuals unable to live in their own home. Avondale House has been serving individuals with autism since 1976.

Job Duties:

  • Provides behavior support as needed throughout the Avondale House School.
  • Ensures accurate and timely completion and submission of restraint/hold paperwork.
  • Supports classrooms in implementation of IEP/behavior goals under the direction of a certified teacher.
  • Administers the food bank program.
  • Obtains and properly documents school attendance, ensuring information is disseminated to proper parties.
  • Assists in the administration of Insights to Behavior and ensuring behavior data is entered by school staff.
  • Serves as lead for student arrival and dismissal.
  • Completes required special education reports and other documents.
  • Keeps students on task and redirects as necessary under supervision of the classroom teacher.
  • Provides higher level behavior support in crisis situations.
  • Problem solves in order to prevent crisis situations and de-escalates potential crisis situations. 
  • Supports students throughout school day with staying on schedule, hygiene, transferring and more.
  • Aides staff in the preparation of classrooms.
  • Demonstrates model behavior, professionalism, confidentiality throughout school program.
  • Shows compassion, builds rapport and encourages students to reach their full potential.
  • Works with staff throughout Avondale House to meet the needs of each student.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Prior experience working with students with Autism or with intellectual disabilities required.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Current CPR/AED Certification required.
  • Current, valid Texas Driver’s License required.
  • Ability to demonstrate Avondale House Core Values: Commitment, Achievement, Respect, integrity, Nurturing, Growth essential.

Salary Description

$15 per hour
