Job Description - Behavioral & Education Support Director


Job Summary

The Behavioral & Education Support Director will oversee the implementation and management of the SMART Grant, ensuring alignment with program goals and compliance requirements. This role includes direct oversight of the Behavioral & Educational Support (BES) Team and coordination with families, school personnel, and community partners to support children with special needs in YWCA childcare programs. The Director will also provide strategic leadership, staff development, and resource coordination to enhance educational and behavioral outcomes for children.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversight of the SMART Grant, ensuring compliance with grant requirements, timelines, and reporting.
  • Supervise and support the BES Team, including training, consultation, and performance evaluation.
  • Provide counseling and support to children and families to address social, emotional, and psychological challenges.
  • Review and assess enrollment applications for children with special needs to determine appropriate programming.
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans incorporating IEPs and YWCA standards.
  • Collaborate with families, school systems, and medical professionals to assess and meet children's needs.
  • Assist staff in identifying and addressing behavioral and emotional needs of children.
  • Model and train staff on effective strategies for supporting children with special needs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, case files, and progress reports for children served under the SMART Grant.
  • Coordinate with external agencies and community organizations for referrals and resources.
  • Promote and apply social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies across programs.
  • Work closely with the Finance department to secure financial resources for the program and assure timely billing for operations, with assistance from the CEO, Director of Education, and Finance Director.
  • Ensure compliance with Texas Department of Human Services Minimum Standards.
  • Respond promptly to unexpected behavioral challenges and provide immediate support as needed.
  • Apply social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies to promote positive outcomes for children in care.
  • Attend YWCAre afterschool programs to observe and support implementation of strategies.
  • May represent the YWCA in community groups.
  • Prepare reports for CEO and other administrative departments as requested.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications
  • Education qualification: College degree with specialization or accreditation in Special Needs is preferred. 
  • Very strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Present self professionally in appearance and mannerism at all times.
  • Ability to relate well with a variety of populations.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours from time to time, including evenings or weekends.
  • Learn and support the YWCA mission, vision, and policies to meet the goals of the organization without compromise, serving as a role model for the Lubbock community both in demeanor and in life-style habits.
  • Reliable transportation in order to travel to different schools across Lubbock.
  • Infrequent out of town travel: 0-10 days/year.
  • Pass a criminal history background check and FBI fingerprint check.
  • Complete all required YWCA required trainings

  • Work on a computer up to eight (8) hours a day.
  • Occasionally work at outdoor and indoor events for extended periods of time.
