Summary

The Behavioral Health Coordinator Supports BH Providers and BH Coordinator and partners with Operations to ensure BH workflows and processes are implemented and followed. Able to work successfully in a fast paced, dynamic work environment. Schedules appointments, processes referrals to BH services, responds to questions, and documents each call within the electronic health record (EPIC) and/or email. Ensures all referred patients are provided timely access to care. Inputs and provides information related to member’s accounts including demographics and billing/insurance information. Supports the BH department to ensure productivity goals are consistently met.

*** The Behavioral Health Coordinator position is grant funded to begin in July 2025.

Some of the Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Greets clients, responds to their questions and/or schedules appointments for Behavioral Health and other AMC appointments in person and on the phone.
  • Annotates BH appointments providing information on the intake packet/consents, and questionnaires needed

ASSISTS IN MEETING BH PROVIDER NEEDS

  • Supports BH staff in delivering seamless integrated behavioral health services in the primary care setting.
  • Schedules and confirms appointments.

ASSISTS WITH THE MEDICAL NEEDS OF THE PSYCHIATRISTS

  • The BH MA provides direct and indirect support to the psychiatrists in the delivery of psychiatric services.
  • Performs/implements orders for diagnostic tests.

WORKS WITH EXTERNAL PARTNERS

  • Verifies insurance coverage, facilitates scheduling of interpreters for BH patients as needed.
  • Assists current BH patients with outside insurance in finding a provider in their network.

Requirements

Skills Required

  • Ability to read, write and speak fluently in Spanish and English required.
  • Knowledge of programs/insurance & access/eligibility guidelines and applications is required which includes knowledge of the following programs: Medi-Cal, CHDP, CPSP, Presumptive Eligibility, Family Pact, and Sliding Scale.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one year or more of related healthcare experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 

  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred with one year experience in a healthcare facility preferred.
