Behavioral Health Patient Monitor (Sitter)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Per Diem Behavioral Health Patient Monitor (Sitter) to join our healthcare team. This position involves providing continuous, direct observation and monitoring of patients who are at risk of harm to themselves or others while. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with the healthcare team, following physician and nurse orders, and adhering to best practices for ligature, restraints, and suicide risk reduction.

Key Responsibilities:

• Continuous Monitoring: Provide vigilant, one-on-one monitoring of behavioral health patients to ensure their safety and the safety of others.


• Patient Interaction: Engage with patients in a compassionate and respectful manner, providing reassurance and support.


• Team Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to execute patient care plans and communicate any changes in patient behavior or condition.


• Safety Protocols: Adhere to hospital policies and best practices for ligature risks, the use of restraints, and suicide risk reduction, ensuring a safe environment for patients.


• Documentation: Accurately document patient behaviors, interactions, and any incidents as required by policy.


• Emergency Response: Assist in emergency situations as directed by the healthcare team, following established protocols and procedures.


• Compliance: Follow all hospital policies, procedures, and protocols, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines.

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional training or coursework in behavioral health is preferred, such as Mental Health First Aid.


• Experience: Previous experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in behavioral health, first responder, or ER, is highly desirable.


• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record preferred.


• Strong observational and communication skills.


• Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.


• Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.


• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.


• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. Additional certifications related to behavioral health are a plus.


• Availability: Must be available to work 12-hour shifts, including nights and weekends, as per the scheduling needs.

Working Conditions:

• Environment: Work is performed in a hospital setting, primarily in ER and MedSurg units.


• Physical Requirements: Frequent walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods. May involve assisting with patient mobility and transfers.


• Schedule: Per diem position with varying shifts, including night shifts and weekends, based on departmental needs.
