Job Description - Behavioral Health Practice Support Specialist


Squirrel Hill Health Center is dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals of all backgrounds. ​ We are seeking a Behavioral Health Practice Support Specialist to join our team and support our Behavioral Health and SUD Teams. ​This position reports to both our Squirrel Hill and Brentwood office locations. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to Behavioral Health/SUD Teams. ​
  • Schedule appointments, verify insurance, and collects co-pays or sliding scale fees.​
  • Greet patients, assist with check-in/check-out, and coordinate follow-up appointments. ​
  • Maintain patient records, prepare packets, and handle insurance authorizations. ​
  • Call patients for appointment reminders and rescheduling. ​
  • Attend and participate in weekly department meetings.
  • Collaborate with SHHC staff to ensure quality care and maintain confidentiality. ​

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required. ​
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a behavioral health setting. ​
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. ​
  • Proficiency in computers, EHR, medical terminology, ICD-10, CPT coding, and insurance knowledge. ​
  • Commitment to serving low-income and underserved populations. ​
  • Knowledge of a second language, such as Spanish or Nepali is a plus. ​
  • Must have all CDC-recommended immunizations, including annual Flu vaccine

Core Competencies:

  • Experience in medical office settings (behavioral health preferred). ​
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse clients. ​
  • Respectful team collaboration and attention to detail. ​
