Job Description - Behavioral Health Specialist (LCSW/LMSW/LMFT/LMHC) - Collaborative Environment

An Early Head Start program is seeking a Behavioral Health Specialist (LCSW/LMSW/LMFT/LMHC).

About the Opportunity:

  • Schedule: M-F
  • Hours: 8:30am - 2:30pm (can work until 4:30pm if extra hours needed)
  • Setting: School / Early Head Start Program
  • Reports to: Senior Administrative Director of FCP/Head Start Director


Responsibilities:

  • Provide mental health services for our Early Childhood and Head Start partnering agencies.
  • The consultant will provide clinical services oversight to families experiencing complex behavioral health challenges in the Head Start centers.
  • Emphasis is on providing a whole-person approach to care and addressing physical and behavioral health.
  • Observe children and classroom environments and provide teachers with strategies to support students.
  • Review Developmental Screening results to make necessary internal and external special education and mental health referrals as necessary.
  • Ensure annual age appropriate social-emotional and development health screenings using evidence-based tools.
  • Document case notes
  • Provide parent workshops, as requested by the program.
  • Coordinate the development of a classroom behavior plan/informal Individual Education Plan for children with disabilities in conjunction with qualified professionals such as the child's teacher, parent/guardian, and other staff members as needed
  • Participate in Multidisciplinary Team Meetings such as Nutritionist, Nurse and other NY State Health Professionals
  • Provide short-term counseling to staff and parents/caregivers and make referrals for additional services.
  • Promote school readiness, individualization, and inclusion for children with disabilities by providing technical support, coaching/mentoring and ongoing training.
  • Submits referrals to community resources using the program referral procedures.
  • Deliver Professional Development on a variety of related topics.
  • Utilize software and all other systems for all record keeping and documentation purposes relevant to your role.
  • Provide other services as required by the program.


Qualifications:

  • Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Masters Social Worker, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • Hold appropriate N.Y.S Certifications and regulations.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and health.
  • Familiarity with Head Start Program Performance Standards and relevant regulatory agencies (e.g., ACS, ACF, UPK, DOHMH).

Desired Skills:

  • 2 years of direct experience in the mental health field.
  • Strong interpersonal and computer skills, with effective oral and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to adapt to diverse cultural backgrounds within the service area.
  • Bilingual Bengali/Urdu/Spanish - they have translators.
