Benefit Counselor

Position Summary:

The BenePhilly Counselor provides direct client assistance to help individuals and families access public benefits and supportive services that promote housing stability and economic self-sufficiency. The Counselor conducts comprehensive benefits screenings, assists with completing applications and recertifications, provides follow-up for outcomes, and ensures accurate and timely data entry in required client management systems to meet funder and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct intake assessments and eligibility screenings for public benefits, including but not limited to SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, LIHEAP, SSI/SSDI referrals, Homestead, Property Tax Rebate, and other local, state, and federal programs
• Assist clients with completing and submitting benefit applications, renewals.
• Provide in-person, phone, and virtual counseling services, including outreach services in assigned communities
• Prepare Action plan for client on benefit requirements, timelines, and reporting obligations
• Daily Data Collection & Entry on a timely basis.

• Minimum of One year experience on benefit applications.
• Fluency in English and Spanish.
• Familiarity with social service networks in Philadelphia.
• Ability to maintain a caseload of clients including prompt and accurate maintenance of client’s electronic files documentation with attention to detail and confidentiality.
• Have excellent oral and written communication, customer service and presentation skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft word, Excel and other Office programs.
• Great organization skills and time management.
• Travel to attend meetings and trainings as required by grantor.
• Other duties may be assigned.
