Job Summary
We are seeking a friendly, organized Benefits and Referrals Coordinator / Front Office Assistant / Medical Assistant to join our team! You will have an important role in our busy orthopedic surgery office and be an integral part of our patients' care. The ideal candidate is very organized, has strong customer service and interpersonal skills, and works well independently and within a team.
Responsibilities
- 2 to 3 days weekly Benefits and Referrals Coordination:
- Health insurance authorizations submissions and follow up
- Patient communication and coordination regarding insurance benefits and authorizations
- Staff and physician communication regarding benefits and authorizations
- 1 to 2 days weekly Front Office Receptionist:
- Greet and checking in patients
- Collection of co-pays and balances
- Verification of patient insurance eligibility and benefits
- Answering phones/ messages, scheduling appointments and responding to patient requests or concerns in a timely manner
- Addressing and distributing incoming faxes to corresponding staff or doctors
- Part-time, 1 or 2 partial days weekly, medical assistant responsibilities including rooming patients, EHR entry, common orthopedic postop care, assisting with braces and splints, etc
Qualifications
- Previous medical office and medical assistant experience required
- Knowledge of HMO authorizations (Optum/ TMIPA)
- Strong customer service skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Familiarity with basic computer programs, such as the Microsoft Office suite
- Knowledge of medical terminology, HIPPA regulations, ICD, and CPT coding
- Proficient in using phone systems, general office equipment and electronic medical records
- Bilingual Spanish and English preferred but not required
Full-time. Wages are dependent on experience. Minimum one year experience required.

About the Practice
As early as 1972, members of Orthopaedic Surgical Specialists (OSS) have been serving the communities of the South Bay in southern California. OSS consists of four orthopaedic surgeons and a pain management specialist with a combined total experience of over 90 years of private practice. The orthopaedic surgeons treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions and their specialties include sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, joint replacement surgery, as well as fracture care and general orthopedics.
