Description
The Lead Benefits Coordinator coordinates staff activities and workflows related to patient access, insurance verification, scheduling, and administrative support within a clinical practice to ensure efficient operations and high patient satisfaction. Provides customer service by supporting appointment scheduling, check-in and check-out processes, insurance benefit verification, authorization coordination, and telephone triage. Serves as a key liaison between clinic staff, providers, and insurance representatives to resolve complex authorization and patient access issues. Provides guidance, training, and mentorship to Benefits Coordinators while promoting service excellence aligned with the UT Health mission, vision, and patient promise. 

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates the ability to support the mission, vision and patient promise throughout all interactions the UT Health Way.
  • Provides guidance, training, and mentorship to administrative staff.
  • Facilitates communication between providers, staff, insurance plans, and patients.
  • Provides authorizations, referrals and general clerical support in a patient care environment.
  • Oversees complex authorization and referral processes.
  • Monitors scheduling and patient access workflows to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Assists with resolving escalated patient service or insurance issues.
  • Maintains clinic records, reports, and administrative documentation.
  • Supports clinic leadership with operational coordination and reporting.
  • Ensures compliance with clinic policies, regulatory requirements, and payer guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of clinic operations, insurance verification, and authorization processes.
  • Ability to coordinate workflow and provide leadership to administrative staff.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills related to patient access and insurance issues.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and guide clinic staff.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and patient service recovery.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, electronic medical records, and clinic management systems.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.
