BESS Technician - Renewable Battery Storage

Summary

We are seeking a skilled Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Technician to support the operation, maintenance, and optimization of our renewable energy battery storage facilities. This role is critical in ensuring the reliable performance of our energy storage assets, supporting grid stability, and advancing our mission toward a cleaner energy future. The BESS Technician will perform both preventive and corrective maintenance, monitor system performance, and support troubleshooting activities to minimize downtime and maximize asset value

Key Job Responsibilities

• Operations & Maintenance
• Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance on BESS equipment (inverters, transformers, batteries, switchgear, monitoring systems).
• Respond to alarms and faults, perform troubleshooting, and execute corrective maintenance activities.
• Support commissioning oversight and acceptance testing for new BESS projects.
• Technical Support
• Work with SCADA and monitoring systems to track performance and identify anomalies.
• Assist engineers and contractors with root-cause analysis of system issues.
• Support firmware/software updates, calibration, and system upgrades.
• Safety & Compliance
• Adhere to OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company safety standards while working around high-voltage systems and lithium-ion batteries.
• Maintain compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in emergency response procedures related to fire, thermal runaway, or other safety events.
• Documentation & Reporting
• Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, downtime, and performance metrics.
• Generate work orders, inspection reports, and asset condition summaries.

Required Education

• Associate’s degree or technical certification in Electrical, Mechanical, Power Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Preferred Qualifications

• NABCEP, OSHA 30, or NFPA 70E certification.
• Prior experience in renewable energy (solar, wind, or hybrid storage systems).
• Knowledge of battery management systems (BMS) and energy management systems (EMS).
• Powin Centipede Stack750E experience

Required Experience

• Specialized Skills
• 2+ years of hands-on experience in energy storage, renewable energy, or power systems preferred.
• Experience with high-voltage systems (480V–34.5kV) and/or lithium-ion battery technologies strongly preferred.
• Technical Skills
• Knowledge of power electronics, electrical distribution, and energy storage technologies.
• Familiarity with SCADA systems, PLCs, and remote monitoring tools.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and O&M manuals.
• Other Requirements
• Strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
• Ability to travel between sites and work in outdoor/remote environments.
• Willingness to be on-call for after-hours troubleshooting as needed.
