Overview
Reporting to the Best Practices Policy Board and working under the direction of the Director of Best Practices, the Best Practices Facilitator supports Yale’s labor–management partnership to improve customer service, productivity, and workplace effectiveness. The Facilitator trains and coaches union and management participants, facilitates Joint Departmental Committees (JDCs) and other groups, and helps teams implement measurable workplace improvements.

Required Skills and Abilities

1. High empathy and emotional intelligence demonstrated through active listening, clear verbal communication, strong questioning skills, and the ability to summarize and paraphrase.

2. Excellent time management and prioritization skills. Project management knowledge and experience.

3. Ability to remain professional and neutral in high-conflict situations. Ability to manage unexpected situations calmly. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

4. Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to develop trust.

5. Proficiency with virtual facilitation tools (e.g., Zoom, Teams). Understanding of the Local 34 union contract and union organizational structure.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

Experience navigating union-management conflict. Ability to map processes and identify efficiencies. Effective influencing skills.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Deliver training curriculum according to guidelines and leaders manuals; adjust or modify training according to vary situations and keep notes on the training delivered 2. Provide stand-up training on labor and management development topics including: Communication, Managing Meetings,Consensus Decision Making, Conflict Resolution, and Interest-based Problem Solving using a variety of techniques 3. Facilitate and lead the work of JDCs, leadership groups, and committees to develop goals and measurements to manage performance, and implementation planning. 4. Assist groups with work process redesign initiatives and coach them in how to formulate a project, collect and analyze data, define the problem, and find the solution 5. Implement classroom training strategies, increasing levels of customer and employee satisfaction and operational efficiency. 6. Monitor progress of numerous Best Practices initiatives cross campus and identify any needs for change, additional support, or conflict resolution. Communicate this information to the governing committees. 7. Collaborate with Best Practices Committees and consultants to determine the direction of the curriculum for on-going training. 8. Provide briefings or presentations on Best Practices activities to union and management leadership, the negotiating committee, departmental meetings, etc. 9. Work with management and union representatives to plan for relevant training and other Best Practices activities so that operational requirements are met. 10. Monitor progress and effectiveness of JDCs, special committees and other joint activities; provide feedback and coaching. 11. Provide periodic updates on training progress to management and union leadership and external consultants. Meet periodically with external consultants to review progress and plan next steps. 12. Assess the effectiveness of training initiatives and make recommendations for improvements and enhancements. 13. Create and monitor program standards and success measures including producing statistics for all projects. 14. Provide general support and assist at department wide events and training programs. 15. Scribe or record discussions at JDC meetings and track attendance to ensure make-up sessions are provided to absentees.

Required Education and Experience

Eight years of related experience, six of them in the same job family at the next lower level and a high school level education; or six years of related experience and an Associate's Degree; or two years of related work experience and a Bachelor's Degree; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
