Status: Full-Time

Reports To: Assistant General Manager

Supervises: Beverage Captain, Bartenders, Cocktail Staff

By curating and recommending wine selections, engaging members with personalized service, and upholding the highest standards.

People: Responsible for hiring, orientation, training, scheduling, coaching, and counseling of all beverage staff. Auditing/inspecting work to ensure standards are met, promoting teamwork and inclusiveness, scheduling, and conducting performance management with staff (reviews, address sub-standard performance). Foster positive relationships with members through active dining engagement, creative programming, and educational events.

Product: Maintaining a comprehensive beverage program, including a balanced wine list of worldwide variety, craft cocktails, local beer, and competitive prices and value. Maintains par stocks for all beverage orders. Maintains a strong relationship with all beverage vendors.

Profit: Meet revenue and expense budget goals. Monitor/Maintain inventory levels. Develop and implement operating procedures for the beverage department.

Job Responsibilities:

The Beverage Manager has these Operational Responsibilities:

  • Establish and consistently enhance operating standards for personnel and consistently evaluate knowledge, understanding, and execution to these high standards.
  • Ensure that an effective orientation and onboarding program exists in all areas of responsibility, along with consistent professional development and training.
  • Displays a professional and positive attitude and sets the tone for the restaurants. Oversees a beverage department as an engaging leader with a creative and robust wine list, craft cocktails, beer, and non–alcoholic offerings.
  • Conduct a positive and educational lineup before each shift by using prepared lineup notes and following a standard list of topics. Keeps line-up fun.
  • Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff and coordinate ongoing beverage training to improve member service standards consistently
  • Participate as an active member of the service management team, addressing members and guiding them through their wine selections, making thoughtful recommendations based on food choices and individual preferences.
  • Communicate closely with culinary staff for accurate food and wine pairings.
  • Manages Wine List
  • Conducts monthly inventory and is responsible for all beverage inventory.
  • Creates monthly beverage articles for the Club's Newsletter.
  • Assures that all laws applicable to beverage operations are consistently followed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required
  • A Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management or a related career field is preferred.
  • Previous restaurant management experience is required.
  • Experience in an upscale private country club environment is preferred.
  • Superior organization, leadership, and communication skills are required.
  • Working knowledge of general business, management, and supervisory practices.
  • Must be able to work at any duty station when necessary.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and walk for up to four hours.
  • Must be able to stoop or bend frequently and kneel occasionally.
  • Lifting and reaching above the shoulder is required regularly.
  • Pushing and pulling up to four hours is required.
  • Manual dexterity with both hands is required.
