Job Description - Bilingual Career Advisor

Job Description:

Salary: $55,000

Do you have a passion for making a difference in someone’s life? Are you looking for an opportunity to use your skills, experience and empathetic nature to work for a progressive, forward-thinking and family-owned company where creativity is encouraged? Are you goal driven? Then the Career Advisor position is for you! We are seeking a dynamic and team-oriented individual to join our spirited team.

As a Career Advisor you will be responsible for registering jobseekers as Workforce1 members and connecting them to job readiness services, training opportunities, and outbound referrals to partner organizations that address employment barriers. You will also manage the Individual Training Grant (ITG) application process, including eligibility, reengagement, and progress tracking. As part of a cross-functional team with the Receptionist and Instructor, Career Advisors are cross-trained to provide coverage for front desk reception and workshop facilitation when needed. This position requires flexibility as it is an office-based role with occasional offsite work, providing both in-person and virtual services to customers as needed.

Workforce1 is a service provided by the NYC Department of Small Business Services that prepares and connects qualified candidates to job opportunities in New York City. We make strong matches for both candidates and employers by using a unique combination of recruitment expertise, industry knowledge, and skill-building workshops to strengthen candidates’ employment prospects. Services are provided to individuals aged 18 and over in all five boroughs of New York City.

Successful Elements:

· Register jobseekers as Workforce1 members and conduct initial assessments to identify their job readiness, skills, and barriers to employment.

· Guide participants through Workforce1 services and connect them to job readiness workshops, training programs, or partner organizations.

· Assist in creating individualized employment plans (IEPs) to outline next steps toward job readiness.

· Manage the full Individual Training Grant (ITG) application process, including eligibility screening, application submission, and reengagement efforts.

· Monitor participant progress in approved training programs and maintain communication with providers.

· Track outcomes and document participant success in program databases.

· Refer participants to partner organizations for wraparound services that address employment barriers, such as childcare, housing, transportation, or ESL classes.

· Provide front desk reception coverage as needed, including greeting visitors, managing check-ins, answering inquiries, and scheduling appointments.

· Provide Instructor coverage as needed, including facilitating job readiness workshops, such as resume building, interview preparation, and Introduction to Services Orientations.

· Document all participant interactions, including referrals, workshop coverage, and ITG progress in program databases and internal trackers.

· Ensure timely and accurate data entry and reporting to meet program and compliance requirements.

· Track metrics (i.e. registrations, ITG completions, and referral outcomes) to support performance goals.

Experience Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree.

· 1-2 years of experience in workforce development, career advising, customer service, or a related field.

· Strong customer service, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

· Flexibility to provide cross-functional coverage, including front desk reception and workshop delivery.

· Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

· Commitment to empowering jobseekers and addressing employment barriers.

· Bilingual Spanish a plus.
